Being a "purist" for the SWC, this build has changed my mind. Beautiful! Trust you and my friend Charlie will have a nice visit. He is a good man.

Happy Holidays and many prosperous new years to come.

We set the dash in place today on the Bronco. With the additional width there is lots of room for all the gadgets. Although it is an open top vehicle it does have A/C with digital climate control, push button start, and JL Audio speakers.

That is a great shot of the 63. You could make a poster / shop sign out of that.
Bronco looks good too.
Is that shade of gray going to be the "shop signature color"?f

I am going to make some posters out of it for sure. Just a matter of coincidence on the colors. Both are factory grey........Corvette is a gm color and the Bronco is a Ford color.

Mark,

I'm planning to be at the Mecum auction on Saturday. Forecast is for pretty cool weather (for us Floridians) but I'm looking forward to seeing the SWC up close.

Nova looks great.
You sure gray is not shop signature color? 3 in a row.
Hope you get big money for the Vette.

You would think so but I guess it was just luck. I picked out the color on the corvette but the other two cars are customers and they picked out their own colors!!

How close was the tornado to you?

Only a few miles. It hit Siesta Key and we are just miles from there. It was a close one!

Amazing car, and amazing photography!

If I had won the Power Ball, I would come see you Saturday.

Darn it anyway.......I think there were quite a few people looking for a win too.

Bob, look me up I will be there for the next 5 days.

Do you have a time yet that the vette will cross the stage? Would love to watch! Good Luck!

I will find out more tomorrow but I was thinking around 4:00.

I know.......man these convertibles are expensive. thank you so much for the link. I would be interested in something a little more driver quality.......maybe closer to $40K needing work.

Great Job on the Garage!

thank you so much!! I enjoy it every day.

Hey guys thanks for checking in on the car. I went up to Mecum and stayed 4 days. I had a real good time seeing all of the cars and meeting people. My wife found a great deal on a 3 bedroom condo......it was cheaper than a motel so we had great accommodations. We knew we were going to run Saturday which is prime time. I was told my car was going to run Saturday afternoon around 4 pm which was a good time. Unfortunately we did not cross the block until 7pm. this is a really late time and many people were gone. Before they started the bid the guys on the floor were trying to talk me down to a price lower than my reserve. I would not agree to it and my car was pushed through pretty fast. In fact they only let it bid up to $175K. I left and went to dinner. They called me 3 times while I was eating dinner trying to put together a deal in the $230's. I didn't take it and brought the car home.

It was a great experience and was probably the main reason why I got the car done so quick at the end. Had it not been for this sale who knows if I would be done yet!!! I still have a few guys interested in the car and we will see what happens.

Glad to hear you held your ground. The car is worth it. Those Mecum guys are a little too aggressive with sellers, in my opinion. I'd have a problem with that big guy trying to pin me against the wall with his arms on my shoulders.

Mark, I don't even know where to start after reading through this entire thread the past week. You have definitely provided a distraction from this blizzard we got up here though!
This thread, and your journey, has provided me inspiration to keep going with my dream of having my own shop someday. I honestly have a plan of doing very similar to how your story went. I have a Jeep I am custom building which is going to be a personal vehicle to take to shows and events and show off what I can do. I am doing every single part of the project myself as a one man shop so yes it's taking a while but it proves I can do every part of the project. I plan on documenting every step which I was doing until the project had to be put on hold for a while.
Now that I have built a new garage (starting small but it'll be a nice place to work) I can think about and put a plan together to get back on it. Reading through everything has given me hope again and ignited the spark again that I thought might be lost.
Maybe it sounds dumb but I'm serious when I say that's how I feel right now.
First thing is to get the shop built and set up and then get cracking on the job again.
Oh and I'm no where near a vette fan but your builds have changed that considerably. I would own one of those (ESPECIALLY that last one!) in a heartbeat!!
Fantastic builds by you and your guys, I sincerely hope to bring the same to the mid-atlantic region/Northeast section of the US, and if not at least I'll have a hell of a Jeep to drive around and show off for a while!

I am glad we provided you with some good entertainment!! Your barn looks great and it looks like you just got in built in time for the winter. You probably need to let the ground do some settling anyway. Take my advise and stay small, have fun, and keep it a hobby.;)

Mark,
I would like to get a copy of the drawings. How can I get them.

Chris (in Oregon)

I will be pm you.

Went to the Mecum Auction last Saturday (1-23-2016) and survived with only a mild case of hypothermia (we Floridians don't handle 40-degree F and 30mph winds real well). Ran into Mark and Mary in the main venue (I think it was Mary -- she was bundled up like an Eskimo). I also got to see the '63 up close. Pictures (especially mine) do not do the car justice. It's all in the details so I'll just point out one.

The C2 (1963-67) Corvettes have sharp body lines but the front and rear bumpers are pretty curvy. In an earlier post, Mark showed some modifications to the bumpers to make them fit closer to the body. That's a tough job but not unique -- Chip Foose did that on most of his "Overhaulin" cars. Mark Took it a step further, giving his bumpers the same crisp lines as the body. Here's what I'm talking about:

Can't see it? OK, here's a closeup:

I can't imagine how much time that took but it's just one little detail among many that make this car a real work of automotive art.

Hey we were there too! What a show. I've never been to one and when we planned a spur of the moment trip to Fl. to escape the snow storm that was coming to our house, I was tickled to death to find that Mecum was right where we were going. I don't think I saw Mark's car, surely I would have recognised the '63 vette if that was the one. Hmmm. Anyway it was a blast. We'll be back, maybe even take a little money.......(just a little)

Beautiful 'Vette...
The Mecum link doesn't work and I was wondering what lot number it was
Thanks
I'm not sure what happened. Mark's 63 Corvette was listed as Lot number S236. I checked it out before the event and after the event and it showed up just fine. Now it's gone. I thought it might be me (usually is) but I actually took a photo of the front of the car at the event:

Thank you guys for keeping this thread rolling while I was out. Mecum was a great event and although I did not accept the final bidding on my car I have Mecum to thank for a few things. First, the photo shoot for the Mecum book was the deadline that got my car done because we did shift into high gear to get it ready. Secondly I don't spend much time away and I booked a condo for 5 days in Kissimmee to hang out and enjoy the show. We had the badges so we could go sit on the front row next to the cars rolling by on the carpet. It was great running into Bob Heine soon after Mary got to the show. We are definitely not used to the 40's in Florida and the Saturday my car ran it was the coldest day in the year. The lesson was once I got to the block they asked me what I would take for the car.............I said hello........I have a reserve:lol: Well, they spit the car out pretty quick on the block......unfortunately I was told it would run at 4 to 5pm but it didn't go until 7pm. Big difference and most of the crowd thinned out. I left and Mecum called me a few times during dinner and got kind of close but i just didn't go for it. I got back to spend last week getting ready for a big show here in Sarasota. we took the Corvette, Nova, and my trailer and had a booth at the show.

So I am temporarily over hauling stuff around in the trailer for a few days!! I am hitting a few local shows with the car the next few weeks for fun. Oh, I have a guy who flew in today from Dallas to look at the Corvette so we will see what happens.

Probably the latest is I bought a 2006 Chevrolet 2500HD 2 wd with a drama and Allisons transmission for our 67 International Project. I couldn't bring myself to buy a duramax already removed from a truck. Who knows if it really runs and who knows how they took it apart. This truck only had 35,000 miles on it!!! Runs like a top!! I will be parting out the rest of the truck.

Thank you I will call on this one tomorrow.

me and my partner put a car in their auction as well. We had a TV spot but they renumbered our lot and pushed us back an hour and a half on auction day and knocked us out of the tv time. Then they fast hammered us. I think there is a lot of stuff that goes on in the back ground of these events that are not necessarily in the interest of the new seller. Once you become a cronie I would bet its quite a different experience. we did get the low end of our expectation so it worked out, it just didnt feel right.
