Greetings all,
Full time farmer here. Earn a living milking cows, & running machines (and wrenching on them to keep them running). Finishing up improvements to a 60x104 shop and looking to starting making improvements to an existing 30x40 shop (to be used for fun projects and a general hangout spot).
Been visiting this site for just a week or so but have really enjoyed looking at all of the different garage pictures and layouts. My shop is a bit different (as you don't put 25,000 lb tractors up on lifts), but nonetheless is still filled with tools, equip, parts, etc.
Caught the old/used tool bug awhile ago and enjoy building my collection from those.
Anyway, looking forward to learning and seeing some more great ideas here.

Welcome aboard. Several dairy farms near me in Williams Township, you on one of them? And lots of garage sales and craigslist listings for good USA tools and such in our area. Also, check out the Hot Deals posts for sales and clearance items at Lowe's, Home Depot, and Tractor Supply.

Placer: your shop and barn sound amazing. any pictures you can share please do and since this is your first thread it's a great place to practice. if you don't have any of your shop handy to post just post what you have even if it's just of your cows. i'm usually hanging in the old tools sections of the forum, but i started looking at all the amazing garages and can't wait to fully retire and move where i can buy or build one.

welcome

Thank you. I'll try to get some pictures of the shop this week. In the meantime-

You are correct. I enjoy the bright lights of blue for 5 months out of the year.
Full disclosure- the farm here in the Lehigh valley is the dairy and I only have a small 30x40 shop (unfinished). The big shop is on another farm I am partners on in Hunterdon County, NJ

Before we did this interior fit out this year we were working with a bare shell or a pole building with 3 high bay lights. Night and day difference.
Painted metal on ceiling with r-30 blown in on top.
Walls are r-19 with 3/4 cdx on the bottom 8' and painted metal on the top 8'.
4 foot- 4 bulb T5's give us lots of light. May add a few more over the work "bays" we are setting up now.
Lots of equipment to get thru the shop over the winter, won't look this clear inside soon.

Placer: your 30 x 40 shop garage sounds like a great size to own. any pictures of it for the before and after?

It looks like you are making friends already here on the forum and your little community sounds nice compared to the big city where i live. my parents grew up on farms 70 years ago and then moved to the city when i was born. i think i'm heading back to a farming community and just need to find one where my wife is happy too.

Finally Started on getting this 30x40 mess finished and organized. I'll start a new thread documenting the progress.

Placer: once you do start a garage thread in garage gallery make sure to put a link to that thread in your sig line so when you post on other threads you might get a few followers. it's hard for old time members to get followers because there are so many great garages and threads about them. What's really nice is if you get several guys following your thread if you have a question you just ask and maybe you'll get a quick answer maybe faster than Googling it.

cheers and good luck

Placer: you'll do fine and while reading the threads if you just want to post a thanks for posting, nice thread or WELL DONE instead of just leaving and going to another thread i'm sure the posters would appreciate it.

ask questions if you have any either here or on the threads you read and that's how we all learn and teach and find out about each other.

good luck and again welcome to the group
