I'll take some pictures this weekend of my workbench building project (carpentry project number 1).
Never did get much done on that, as running a circular saw in the garage underneath a napping kid's bedroom is a poor, poor idea [logic, not experience]. And since my garage time usually coincides with the 1 year olds nap…
I got some of the cuts made, some of the framing done but really stalled out with life, work and riding. We did get some new bedroom stuff for the kids so I got one of the old chest of drawers for "bikesh*t" storage as my wife calls it. Below is how my side sits now.
Still nothing pretty about it, but if I can murder my dedicated packrat, it might clean up a bit.
KJ: I'm just guessing that biking is your fun hobby? since your garage isn't one of those 40 x 120's like some of the members you might look into storing the bikes off a ceiling pulley system to have the walls for tools and other storage. not that it doesn't look great now i just know if you become a member here that you'll want to own more tools.
good luck with the little ones and my advice is to just enjoy the ride bumps and all with them and your wife.
cheers
biking doesn't pay any bills for me, so I better enjoy it.
I've thought about the ceiling storage for bikes, but thats just one more step in the process of getting a bike out - I don't want to have to move cars. What I really should do is build some loft storage for other tools - the ones that only come out every so often.
As far as the tools I use the most - those are the allen wrenches, which don't take up much space. Actually, the most used things are shop rags which reside in the bottom drawer and chain cleaner/lubes which are easily stored in the top drawer.
Its funny how the kids are such different personalities - the three year old is great in the house, always has been and loves the garage but is always underfoot and in the dangerous stuff, from the time she could walk. The smaller one is a terrorist in the house, but is much easier to deal with in the garage than the first kid ever was. I give him a bicycle floor pump and he's good for at least 30 minutes.
Its not always enjoyable, but its always rewarding work, this parenthood thing.
