KRL - drawers are hard to open

I just recently purchased a new krl1023. The drawers are extremely hard to initially open. The top drawer (with 2 slides per side) takes two hands pulling on drawer lip and placing thumbs above drawers and prying open. Once broke loose the drawers move freely. All drawers are similar in action.

Are there detents that can be removed or modified to help this? It takes too much work to open the drawers with out dumping the tools in the drawers. Thanks for any ideas.

Mine have both been that way at first too it seems. They will eventually loosen up, but it seems to take forever. Hopefully someone has a good fix for you

Can you remove one of the drawers and look at the back of the rails? I just did a video on how to remove the detents from the backs of the rails on a HF tool box. Maybe yours has something similar or maybe it got bent some time in the past? Couldn't hurt to check out if the rails are straight or if maybe there's something else obvious wrong there.

You are sliding the plastic part under the drawer handle to the left first, correct?

KRL's usually don't have detents. They have lock and roll instead.

The key to stiff drawers is to put some tools in them.

An empty drawer is harder to open then a fully loaded drawer.

Yes on pulling the latch to the left before opening. The drawer is fully loaded and moves freely once broken loose. When I first tried opening the drawer for the first time it appeared that it didn't unlock. I tried opening several times until I realized how much pressure it took to open it.

My krl box has detents for sure they are at the rear of the slide, if you look at a snap on catalog under toolbox accessories they list lighter and heavier detents .Im not sure about the online catalog BUT IVE SEEN THEM IN THE BOOK

Just looked in the catalog. Looks like there are gray for increased stiffness, and off white for standard stiffness. Also black. Nothing that appears lighter.

It appears that the black plastic on the end of the intermediate rail wedges when the drawer closes to make the detent when closed. Does this sound correct?

I know all companies do it differently but my new to me mac is about 10 years old & most detents are just about perfect. A little stiffer than I'm used to opening but glide back into place with no effort. The bottom wide drawer with double slides takes a lot of effort to open . This would lead me to believe it hasn't been used much. I only have some empty cases & spare liners in it myself.

I have a KRL 1032 & 1033 the heavier the drawer the easier to open. I can open and pull the top drawer with sockets with one finger. There is a little knack to it and it has to break in a touch. Also there is one direction to pull if your a little off one way or other it becomes difficult.
