Help me fix my Milwaukee 6791-20

I've got a 6791-20 Remodeler's Screwdriver that I dropped over the weekend. After the drop it doesn't work. I get nothing out of it, not a buzz or anything. It was bought in 2002 so warranty is expired. It's a great driver, mostly used for drywall. It hasn't seen a ton of use and it's a USA model so I would like to repair it. All the parts appear to be available but I'm not sure what I should look for. Any advice would be appreciated.

Open it up and take a look. Might just be a connection came loose or something. Test for power after the switch.

Pulled out my meter and took it apart. Power cord checked ok. I have power to the switch and after in both forward and reverse. Pull the front case off, looking for jammed gear box, no missing teeth and gear box isn't jammed up. Guess I'll take it to the service center.

You dropped it? I assume that's a brushed motor. Did you break the brushes? They're a block of carbon and if they crack then sometimes you will no longer have continuity to the motor. I dropped my HF grinder and broke one of the brushes. Unfortunately the thing fell apart in my hands as I tried to replace the brushes so I just got rid of it. Check that before taking it to a center.

If the gear box or something was locked up you would still hear the motor trying to go until it burned up. If you have power after the switch then like mentioned check the brushes. They are usually held in with some sort of small spring, just pay attention to how it goes. If they look good then test for power there with trigger pushed.

Sounds like a brush problem. I bet either the brush bounced during the drop and is hung up not making contact with the commutator, or the little wire going to the brush is broken.

Ditto on brushes. They're cheap, but a service center charges a lot to replace them. Do it yourself and save $$.

Thanks for pointing me to the brushes. One of them had a fractured face and you couldn't tell without removing them. I cleaned it up a bit and reinstalled and the driver works. I'll get some new brushes in the next few days.
