Ryobi 6.5 amp angle grinder

I am looking for a 4.5 inch angle grinder. Found a ryobi 6.5 amp one at HD for $39.97. This will be used in my home shop a few times when needed. Do not want to invest a lot into this due to the fact the last one i had that finally gave up the ghost was only used probably 20 to 30 times a year. It was a HF grinder sort of got run over by the car left under car when i moved it . Trying to get away from HF and upgrade a little what say the masses. Thank you for the help.

Guess no one has one of these to give a little insight on them. Oh well it was worth a try I will just get it and hope for the best.

I have a ryobi. I bought it because it was the cheapest one at Home Depot. No problems except the disc lock button broke so now o have to use a thin wrench to change discs.

I think the trigger is dead man? I prefer this for safety although I prefer paddle over trigger if given a choice

Jimbo's Garage on youtube loves them. Watch his videos and that is all he uses. They seem like decent grinders. Way better than the Harbor Freight grinders.

Reviews seem to be decent on it it isnt gonna be used and abused. If i had not of gotten in a hurry and broke my HF i would still be using it but not thinking sort of did it in. lol

I am also wondering if the HD extended warranty. Is worth the money or not for the price point might just be worth it to just buy another if it burns up.

I have three of the Ryobi's and a couple dewalts and a makita variable speed. If I had to have just one, it would be the Makita. The makita is the best grinder I have ever used.

One of my dewalts started on fire...it was the cheapest version they sell. My other dewalt is great and after about 10 years I replaced the brushes cause they were done and it seems good as new. I would also buy one of these again, it has been good but not as nice as the makita.

Now, for the ryobi, HD had some crazy sale one day. 3 boxes taped together and sold for the price of one. Not sure why but I picked them up. I keep a flapper disk on one, a diamond cup wheel on one and a thick grinder disk on one. They seem to work okay but are louder and not as smooth feeling as the dewalt and makita. I had a fourth but it burned up.

My makita, dewalt, and the ones that died were all used heavily in cutting ceramic tile, stone, and concrete so they lived very abused lives. I would expect with normal use they all would have lived longer lives.

I have used the HF grinder and was not impressed with it. The ryobi is a little better in my opinion. The dewalt and makita are a lot better than the ryobi. I would not buy the warranty unless you are a heavy grinder user and abuser.

Thats what i was leaning toward for the price you would probably just be throwing the ext. warranty money down the drain. Thanks for the insight.

Thanks Bobcat753 watched the video bit the bullet ordered one yesterday picked it up today. Pretty impressed so far should handle anything that i have to put it thru. Thanks again.

Tip for those who have burned up grinders or want to avoid it. When hot after heavy use, do NOT just turn them off and set them down!!!! That is what burns them up! Instead, take the grinder off the work and the load and keep it spinning freely in the air for a good 60 seconds. This lets the airflow cool everything hot down. It is when they are switched off hot as fire that they seize up. - Paul

I've been looking at the 29.99 Ryobi grinder. I have the 18V, which is ok for small things. My batteries died cutting and grinding bolts on an exhaust pipe apart, and I wanted to step up to something corded.

What I like about them is that the wrench slides into the end of the handle.

The $39.99 one is a little more powerful I looked at both on the HD website. I think the cheaper one was 5.0 amp the more expensive one was 6.5 amp. I like the rotating handle on the 6.5 amp. Come in handy in making some cuts with it a little better control of grinder.

I have a previous generation Ridgid that was made Metabo.

I bought a 2 pack of the current Ridgid grinder for $79 and have used it a few times and I felt really quite nice. Lifetime warranty on the Ridgid if you register the units within 90days. If it gives up the ghost, you will get a new one.
