Found this oldie for sale Locally for $80. 1-1/16 is cracked, and all sizes below it are Craftsman. 1-1/16 and up are SK. Ratchet handle is bent, but functional.

I think $80 is a bit steep. What say the experts?

Its one of those hit or miss deals. If theyre all usa and only one is damaged then yeah, its probably worth it. But there ARE much better deals out there, but the time/effort/final quality of what you might get will be a variable only you can know the value of. A quality 1 3/4" socket is every bit of $20 on ebay (+/- shipping), so you do the math. Roll the dice or dont. Better deals out there but will you be able to find them?

Now you see the struggle I had.

Ended up selling the **** only using a couple of them once.

Ratchet is bent so that means the gear head is strong and I feel sk is one of the best brands out there. I would think its worth 80 easy. You can buy a China set for less, but then that's what you have, a China set.

Thanks guys. Got a friend who needs it, not me. I've got 2 SK 3/4" sets already, and don't want to part ways with my second set.
Just trying to determine what's a good price on a used set.
I gave $100 for my good set at garage sale, and $45 for my not so nice one, at an auction.
Thought I did good at those prices, and set above is in a pawnshop.

Could probably straighten that ratchet in a press. Friend gave me a long (24"?) Snap On breaker bar someone must have put a pipe on and bent, put it in the press and straightened it perfect. Probably my favorite breaker bar now.

The round head ratchet is very nice with a high tooth count (72).

But the price is a bit high in my opinion.

For reference, the Blackhawk 3/4" set as shown in the photo with 17 sockets, ratchet, ratcheting head, breaker bar, three extensions, metal case and a Craftsman T handle was $75. The seller discounted it a bit due to one broken socket.

I bought a similar set a year or so ago, paid $50, kept the williams sockets out of it for my set and sold the SK for $100 + postage on ebay. I think the value is there in the set you're looking at for $80.

You say 1-1/16 up is S-K, and 1-1/16 is shot. How far up do the rest go? Also by ratchet bent you do mean both bends?

Would love to see the size of the "cheater" bar they used on a 3/4" ratchet to manage to bend it!

if it is needed even one time in a pinch you won't care whether you paid 20 bucks more or less. still less than the price of one brand new ratchet from the truck

if something better comes along you can always move it.

Nothing wrong with that set for the price, if they can't wiggle down on price maybe seller can toss something else in. It's a good start and you can keep a eye out for loose 3/4 drive sockets later. Never heard of SK,,offshore no doubt?

I don't know how to respond to this. Were you kidding?

Anyways, I wouldn't hesitate to pay $80 for this set. Used sockets will set you back $10-$20 apiece in a used tool store, and a good used ratchet will cost at least $50. The cracked socket can be replaced under warranty.

Finally, yes, you can find better deals on sets at estate sales, auctions, swap meets, and the like. But how often do these deals come along? Even seasoned buyers will only find give-away deals a couple times a year. If your buddy needs it now, buy it.

If your buddy needs it now $80 is fair, especially at a pawn shop. Could take years at auctions before you find a comparable set for cheaper.

+1 to beat the pawn shop down on price and snag it. Just about any 3/4" drive set is going to be $100 or more.

Always can get Ptittsburg Pro set at Harbor Freight that would get you by, but that will be more money.

I put this together around 3 years back for around $200 it's all craftsman USA. It's almost a complete set of std/metric and drive tools. So far it's (22-30mm 32,35,36,38,41,42)
And (7/8 - 2 1/8" ) put in an a used pelican 1600 case that I had. Id say the price is fair but not quite "You ****"

One more note... I have only needed this set aprox A dozen times, It's one of those thing I wouldn't waste money on unless you really think you will need it. Although all of those time I would have been screwed without it... :scared:

Why don't you already have that set in your hands yet ?

I've been putting together a =V= Craftsman 3/4dr set for several years now, thinking that I'd be saving money picking up pieces one at a time. I only have two prices left to find and I'm sure I've spent over $150 so far. I would have saved money if I had bought a complete set from the start.

I just set aside a huge bunch of 3/4" drive sockets to sell, thought there might be an SK 1 1/16" in the bunch. Looked, and the one that I thought was SK was actually a BM marked Craftsman, which was made by SK. I had three of the SK made Craftsman, so put them in the classifieds once I had sorted them out anyway. But, no 1 1/16" SK marked one.

Where'd you find that at PawnDaddy? I'd offer 50. BTW, Dan's tool crib has an older 3/4 SK set for 150 if your friend wanted to go that high.
