We are now offering blem hammers at 50% off list price. I mentioned this in another thread or two, but here are the particulars.

The quality of the blems is high. Our intent is to offer hammers that have the same function, feel, and durability of our branded hammers but have cosmetic or other minor issues that prevent a sale. I have attached some photos of blems, and the link below shows a couple other examples of blems. Sorry, the Swiss cheese blem doesn’t make the cut.

As for the photos, in some instances, it’s hard to determine the issue. The red-swirl sledge is only a blem because the color ran out.

Ball peens will not be available as blems, and smaller hammers and bossing mallets will be in short supply. Right now, we have zero Model #12 blems.

If you wish to make a purchase, please send a PM to me that includes your “ship to” information and your email. If you have my email, you can bypass the PM part and send an email directly to me. Please post any general questions in this thread. Others might have the same questions. The "Sorceress" and I will be processing orders.

I just recieved 2 model 0 and a model 1 blem that I ordered with my blue bp40. Functionally they are just as good as any, the two model 0 have a small void at the very bottom the handle and I honestly cant figure out why the model 1 is a blem.

Thanks again Richard!

You're welcome, and we always look forward to feedback. The guys in the plant have their standards for the hammers. I don't handle the hammers everyday, and I too have trouble pinpointing what makes a particular hammer a blem.

Will the blem deal encompass all models except for the ones specifically listed above?

Yes, all models except ball peens will be available as blems. We don't manufacture as many of some models as others, so there are fewer blems available. We don't have much if anything for bossing mallets right now. The Model 0 and S0 will be hard to buy as blems, too.

Placed my order today can't wait for UPS to show up (5 dead blows and 2 sledges for $170 can't beat that with a dead blow hammer)

I took advantage of this great offer as well. A set of ball peens will be in my future. I really should have grabbed a sledge or two at these prices!

I'm a PM response away from spending way too many sparkling monies on hammers... It's a little hard though without a gallery to choose from. Maybe it's for the best that it's not easy to pick out discount hammers and go bankrupt?

Sadly I just realized the hammer that I planned to get for my friend for his birthday is a ballpeen. :/ He has a matco TC Deadblow. Luckily I have all the hammers I nees or want.

I'm looking for a dead blow hammer still any available?

The blems are not going to be a one time thing. I'd be happy if we could brand every hammer that we pour, but it doesn't work this way. Blems are here to stay, until I'm told differently. We also make hammers that we'd never sell as blems. These hammers get scrapped out. A way to purchase blems on our website needs to happen at some point. We'll keep everybody posted.

I'm curious what happens to cause such trouble and what they look like. Does the hammer get offset in the mold, and so the polyurethane comes out uneven and metal exposed? Other scenarios? (And while I'd like to know more, I also understand that a company might not want to point out flaws in its materials, process, or workers and so you maybe can't share more.)

There're a host of reasons for hammers not coming out of the molds perfectly each time. Workers can make errors, polyurethane is not a commodity, equipment might need maintenance ahead of schedule--it's not an exact science. We have hammers we will sell as blems, and there are a larger number of hammers we scrap out--wouldn't offer for resale or giveaway.

We love pictures (as you know).. even if they are disasters... Some might very well sell here only as "conversation pieces"..... Not practical but hey.. why not ask...

Who knows?
I strongly suggest ordering a Model-7 sledge....blem or otherwise. I just received mine (pictures late) and it's an absolute beast.

Also received the largest sized DB ball peen in extreme green. WOW what a beaut!

Thanks again Richard. Aside from two Nuplas I have, all my other dead blow hammers have come from Trusty Cook.

I totally agree. I've got an Estwing 88E which is the equivalent hammer and it is my go-to. That thing is awesome.

I've also got a BP40 coming so I'm excited for that big ball peen. Now I just need to pick the remainder of the order and then begin the waiting game.

The blems are here to stay for some time, at least. I just want to clarify a few things. I think I had a few gaps in my original post. We will have all hammers, except ball peens, available as blems at different times. Some models are more popular than other models, so we are constantly running these models. Unfortunately, we end up with more scrap or blems for the popular models. A "scrap" hammer gets thrown out or the steel gets recycled. Blem hammers are functional and durable, but will usually have some cosmetic issues. If I say we don't have any blems of a certain model today, that doesn't mean we won't this model as a blem a month or two from now--or a few days from now. We have hammers that are destined for the blem bin that haven't been finished. The guys in the plant work on branded hammers before trimming and finishing blems.

Nobody is going to be a bother if he/she checks back with me at different points to see if a certain blem is available. We hope to have blems set up for website purchases at some point soon.

Thanks for your support.

Received mine today. The blemish on them were very minor. A few had the hammer face a little distorted but nothing non usable the large sledge I got looked like a small cut in the handle and the rest small voids in the handles.

On question I have is that the #0 and the #3 the handles where you grip is rounded where the #1, #2, #4 and #7 the grip handle is more squared (doesn't feel as good in the hand as there rounded but still feel fine) is this a blemish or are they normally more squared? I looked at the photos on the web site of the non blemished but you can't tell.

The shape of the handle doesn't indicate a blem. We have different styles of handles.

Thanks for the feedback on the blems. I think the blems are a good value, and not just because I'm making these posts. We have group of customers that purchase our Model #10 for a competition, and these customers eventually destroy the hammers. It makes sense to me for these customers to purchase blems while training for the competition. I was told by somebody the other day that he goes through hammers more quickly training new guys, and he'd rather spend $52.50 than $105 for a hammer for a rookie that hasn't learned how to swing the hammer.

Are you a participant?

Years ago. One of the younger guys at my station started his career in another, nearby department before hiring on with us. He was part of their nationally competitive team. He's trying to gather up a team with us.

So how do I find out what blem hammers are in stock? Do I email the OP with what I want and he tells me if he has it or not or do you have a list of what's in stock
