Utility cart with sliding top

At some point I remember seeing a utility cart (I think it was a Mac) that had a 2-piece top, and both pieces slid open to the sides, which opened up the top compartment. Does anyone know of a cart that does this? I really love the idea of the sliding top, I just need one on a smaller cart that better fits the tight quarters that I am regularly dealing with. I currently have a Mac cart with the top that slides back and also opens vertically, and it is too big. It is for sale, by the way, if anyone in Seattle is interested. (Not sure if it is appropriate to mention that here or not; if not, I apologize)

My old coworker had a really nice MAC cart like you're looking for. The top of the sliding parts also opened to store paperwork. Really nice.

Also went to school with a guy that had a really nice Homak Pro cart that had the 2-piece sliding top. Price and quality-wise, that's the route I'd go.

Fourth cart down:

I had one for several years. I absolutely hated it. In order to use any of the upper section both tops had to be fully open, meaning your now taking up a space almost 6ft wide. In order to access the drawer latches, the back side of the top needed to be clear so you could actually use the handle. Over time the bottom shelf at the uprights started to tweek and it was not over loaded or abused. I finally gave it to a good friend of mine a couple years back. I'll hv to find a picture on a real puter.

I really like these! How high is the quality on them, and where do you find pricing? I didn't see it on the page. Are these shipped or sold through a certain store?

Well, space from side to side isn't usually an issue...we have all the hall space a guy could ever want. It is front-to-back where I have trouble. In order to get to anything in the back of my top compartment, I have to park a solid 9-10 inches away from the wall, so I am generally in everyone's way.

I'm not sure I follow you about the drawer latches though. Do you mean to lock and unlock it?

Yes, I finally propped the lock mechanism up and relied on the drawer detents to keep them shut which was unreliable.

Northern Tool, Amazon and all the other online retailers have them. NAPA Auto can also order them in. As far as I know, they're in the $450-500 range.

Yeah, l was just looking a little deeper, and it looks like all the NAPA stores up and down the l-5 corridor carry them.

Are they good, durable boxes with smooth drawers? TBH, after having my Mac box l don't think l could handle a cheap box again.

Ball bearing slides, and between the couple of guys I've known and worked with that have the Homak Pro stuff, it's not far off from Matco (and nicer than the Sunex rebrand carts they sell) and much nicer than the Snappy Blue Point branded boxes and carts.

Should be able to walk into most NAPAs and mess with the larger Homak Pro boxes and see how you like them.
