NewAge Cabinet Locks... All Different

Long story short, I purchased some really nice NewAge Pro series cabinets from Home Depot, got them all setup, and every one of them takes a different key. I really don't want to have 13 different keys, any suggestions? I called them and the lady said that it wasn't possible. After checking their FAQ section, it appears that only the 5 drawer is different from the rest of the lock cylinders and it should be possible.

"Q-Is it possible to have all the locks the same?
A- The tool base lock has a different key mechanism than the other units, the key will always be different than the other cabinets."

Anyone else ever try this? I can't believe for the money spent that you have to deal with this. The cabinets are really nice, but I can't believe that I have to have a key ring just for cabinet keys.

Picture of how some of the cabinets turned out in case anyone is interested.

I would pull a lock off and see if something in the pin kit fits it and rekey them myself.

If you dont have pin sets have you talked with a locksmith? They can probably do it.

Or if the locks have numbers on them you can call and ask to order a replacement lock with number ####. Sometimes it's the way you ask, not the question that gets the answer.

I have taken them to a local locksmith and he claimed that he couldn't do it. He's been in the locksmith business over 40 years, so I trust his judgement.

Also the locks don't have numbers like a lot of locks do. I wish it was that easy.

That looks like a rather standard cabinet lock, I would keep looking. The square piece attaches to the lock bar itself with a screw and that's how all cabinet locks are attached.

I called them and the lady said that it wasn't possible.

Thanks guys. I'm going to see what I can find. I wish it was as easy as a master key. They told me that they don't offer anything like that. I'll report back with what I figure out. I'm sure I'm not the only NewAge customer that is a little annoyed at the fact of having multiple keys.

Take both style assemblies down to the locksmith and have him get you a new tool base assembly that can be keyed alike. Or all new assemblies if necessary.

Check an RV store or online for trailer storage compartment locks. All camping trailer storage compartments are keyed the same. I know every camper I've had has a 751 key.

Not many people would lock all the cabinets. May be the tool cabinet if someone else was also using the space. If you're storing hazardous chemicals, you could lock that cabinet. The cabinets are inside the garage right?
I've been selling these cabinets for 6 years and this is the first complaint I've heard about keys.

:dunno:

If you put your key into that lock the core will come out and you will see it is a wafer lock.
Not sure where you live, but most major lock shops can rekey them. It does take a special kit. A normal pin kit will not work.

We sell those locks at our RV store everyday. You can buy them keyed alike if you wish. Just make sure you get the right length ie. 5/8", 7/8", etc. etc.

I can tell you how to cheat, Use the correct key to get the core out of the sleeve, Do this to all but one lock, That lock and key will not be your useful key.
Then put your useful key in the other locks one at a time. You will see some small brass plates on both sides, If you grind or file these down flat, then that key will also work on that lock, Repeat until all locks are done. Then you will have one key that will open them all and the other key will also work. They just will not be as secure. The more keys different keys that will open a lock the less secure they are. Good luck

I just bought the 15 piece Performer set and all the keys are the same. I'd call New Age and see what they can do. They may send you a new set of keys.

I got it taken care of today. Took them to another locksmith locally. He should have them done for me tomorrow. The first place i took them to said that they couldn't do it, but I'm not sure why. Either way, I should be reinstalling them tomorrow. Thanks for all of your help guys!
