You have sooo many toys!
You have no idea Kevin. haha.

Nice place you've got going! The stair well from the garage to the basement looks like a good place to shelter from a tornado if one comes along. Thanks for sharing your build.
Thanks. I sure hope one never comes along. They are very rare in Delaware. knock on wood.

Broke ground on the shop on Monday. Nothing much to see right now. 22 - 36" holes and 21 - 24" holes full of 1' of concrete for the footings. Was going to put up the posts today but the crew didnt work in the cold weather. Hope to get the posts set tomorrow and pour another 2' of concrete and then start on the LVL carriers and purlins. I took some pictures but there isnt much to see.

Making some progress on the pole barn last week. Im going with 13' ceilings in the garage. Im afraid of making the building too tall since its right next to my house. Weather has been a problem. Its too cold to work today and tomorrow so they probably won't work until Wednesday. Trusses should be there today or tomorrow. I stopped out there to back blade and clean up and it started snowing got about an inch yesterday and they are saying we could get 6-12" this weekend. Never fails... Now for some pictures.

Here are some better pictures of the shop. They worked on it 4 days last week and 2 days this week. Should be able to get a full day in tomorrow before the snow comes. Hopefully Monday or Tuesday of next week we can set the trusses. I have a crane coming in for half a day to make it easy.

Do you do pole barns for a living? I am trying to get an idea of how much a 24X24 pole barn would cost for my house in Millsboro.
We've done them before but i just dont have the time anymore. Im a fulltime stormwater engineer now. It would take me forever working on the weekends with all of the inspections that the county requires now. I have a local guy thats helped me in the past put this barn up. Delmarva Pole Barns will do a complete package. They are just south of Dover in the Camden area. There is an Amish outfit around Greenwood that does them as well. They put up my buddy Greg's pole barn. They did a nice job.

I will. I probably wont pour the floor until the end of march beginning of April. So it will be late spring early summer before i finish out the inside. Im going to put the interior purlins on and run the electric in the meantime. Im going to do a 400A service in the house with a 100A subpanel in the shop. Im going to use all LED fixtures so the 100A subpanel should suffice. Everything backed up buy a generator on the house panel.

On the 6x6 posts ... were they just dipped, or is it two separate posts joined? I've never seen a post only partially treated.

Any plans on running power or water under the pad?

Going to be a nice place.

The post aren't dipped its the way they are made. treated boards are laminated to un treated boards. I have pole buildings made this way that were put up in the early 1990s that are doing just fine.

Power will come in under the pad on the exposed area of the lean to. No need to spend the extra money on a boiler and pad heat. With the way the building will be insulated i will only need heat 2 months out of the year. I will have at least two floor drains in the floor. Not sure if I'm going to just run them into an infiltration trench or tie them into the septic. The first floor will have a half bath under the lean to and ill just plumb a Y pipe into the vent for a future full bath on the second floor. It wasn't on the plan for the county so it has to go in after final inspection.

Just an update: The project has been delayed for a few days becasue of the Blizzard from last weekend. Got somewhere around 12-14" of snow. I was able to finally clear off the site today So im hoping there is a good amount of snow melt with temperatures reaching 50 degrees today. The state highway department put a nice 5' wall of solid ice at the entrance to my driveway. Had to dig it out with my excavator. My poor truck was no match for it. Anyway i hope the contractor can get back out there tomorrow or Thursday.

Lucky you had the excavator

Imagine having to do it by hand with a shovel and a pickaxe :shocking:

Normally i would of done it with my wheel loader but it was over an hour drive away. I couldnt get the lock unfroze on my bulldozer to get it started and the tracks on my bobcat were frozen to the ground. So my excavator was the only thing left i could use.

Trusses started going on yesterday. Waiting on a crane for Thursday to set the rest. Metal for the roof is ordered hopefully they can have a roof on by early next week. When they make some more progress i will get some better pictures. By the time i get out there every night its dark.

Framers are set to start the beginning of next week on the house.

Few more pictures from Saturday. Working on the gable ends today and putting the 3/4" T&G subfloor in the attic. Hope to get started on the metal roof later this week.

Great looking project. Love the Mopars too. Subscribed. (no rebar or mesh in the basement slab ?)
They use fibermesh instead of wire or rebar on slabs that aren't used for heavy traffic. The garage and shop floor will have w2.9 X w2.9 welded wire mesh on top of 6 mil poly. My concrete guy uses pea gravel instead of 3/4" washed stone, it gives the floor a butter smooth finish.

So after looking at the shop this weekend i decided i wanted to do something different with the roof line to give it some more character. At first my contractor didn't agree with me but after i showed him a few pictures he was game. The overhang is normally 1' but i wanted to add some detail that you might not notice at first glance. I started the roof taper 8' down from the peak and it extends to 3' past the truss. They framed it up for me to see before they finished bracing it. I kinda dig it. I got the idea from a Morton building i saw online. Let me know what you guys think...

This one:

HemiRamOn22s, that detail looks great! If you end up putting a vent in the gable end that extra overhang might help keep driven rain out as well.

I dont plan on doing a vent on the gable. There will be vent board run from the eves up to the ridge on the roof where the ceiling insulation will be in the way.

There will be an big window on the front and rear gable once its framed in. 60"x80" to meet EGRESS incase i ever make it living space. Im going to put the same window on the rear gable. Those walls should be the next thing on the list to get framed it. Possibly tomorrow so ill post pics when thats done. Getting rained out today. Have to schedule a framing inspection for later this week as well.

Looks like you are still playing in the mud. When your concrete is down and the walls are closed in your whole attitude about the job will change. Fighting mud, rain, and cold bleeds off enthusiasm. Once you are dried in you can really visualize the end and, for me, at least, I get a blast of energy and enthusiasm that takes me to the end.

Windows and exterior metal will go on over the next 2-3 weeks. Im in no rush. I won't be able to pour the floor until the end of March or beginning of April anyway. I still have to rough in my plumbing and electric. And i can't really do the electric until i get the house panel set and swap over from the temp service. Everything is going to be on a propane 20 KW backup generator. So that all take time to setup.

But yes the wet conditions and the cold are depressing. Today its in the teens and the ground is as hard as a rock. Yesterday it was a sloppy mess and when it thaws out it will be sloppy again.

Made some progress on the shop and house while i was gone last week! Roof is on the shop and all of the windows are in. Now its time for soffit, fascia, and finishing the exterior metal.

First floor is done on the house. They have the main garage wall to set before they start on the second floor. They don't mess around this is only 3 days worth of work.

I'm surprised by the backfill being placed prior to the floor deck going on. Also, the poured to CMU transition. Your walls look to be 9 foot. As an engineer, I'm quite sure that you are aware of the lateral force from the soil pressure. Not saying it's dead wrong just different.
Why not just pour the wall full height?

There is #6 or 3/4" rebar every 23" O.C. Where the porches are located. It extends up into the block and then It's poured solid. These are also 10" walls and block. The standard is 8". I waterproofed the transition between the block and wall as well to the soil or backfill line. If you just pour solid walls the house won't even be close to square or level. Trust me this is how all of the custom homes are built in my area.

Few pictures from yesterday. Got rained out today and probably tomorrow. Garage door openings are 9x9'. They will be 45 at the top like the doors on the pole barn. There is still another 8"-12" of fill to go in the garage once its all framed up.
