You may be able to flip that chipped jaw face around (if you can get the screws out).

I think the turtle backs could be Bison or FPU. Eastern European, but decent vices.

Yet another sale I missed. He sold the 7" vise for $300. I didn't want to ask about the anvils... :-(

Here is some of what I picked up yesterday. Wilton W-9 vise where do I find date if any?

Does that say Chicago 14 IL USA? If so I would say early to mid 50's.

Reasons why.
Wilton moved to Schiller Park in 1957
The "14" is the old postal code for the Wilton Chicago plant. The postal code was the pre-cursor to the 5 digit zip code which came out in 1963.
2 digit postal codes for large cities came out around 1943. From my experience with the Wilton Bullet date database the "14" vises have date codes in the early to mid 50's.

Hello Vise Friends,
Here are some bookend sets that I made from broken bench vises. They are currently displayed in an art gallery that will have a charity art show for TOUCH Inc. TOUCH Inc is an organization that provides non medical funding for cancer patients.

The first & second pictures show a Red Arrow & a Columbian C44 vise.
The second picture shows all 4 vise bookend sets together before I took them to the gallery.

Mark: sorry i saw your post just as i was posting mine earlier today and read it too quick. now I see you are donating those to a great cause. nice work and hope they raise some money for your charity.

ALL: any other votes for vise of the year 2015? I've sort of dropped the ball on that thread because i have never run a poll before so will do so soon.

i'm thinking of having a few catagories
1) vise of the year
2) best restoration
3) best vise family
4) most unique

thoughts? if you have any thoughts on this can you go to the vise of the year thread to post them? here's a link. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=313343&highlight=vise+year

Wilton with the poWRscrew hydraulic assist. I just read a thread about one on the gj!

Picked up a Prentiss Bull Dog 254 (Old no. 514) tonight.

Since it has Meriden CT cast into it instead of New York, and has both the new 254 model number on one side and the old no. 514 on the other, this example was made after Parker bought Prentiss. So I'm guessing this one was made during the 1950's.

The rust on it is surface rust, it turns easily with just one finger. Plan is to wire wheel it and paint it. This restoration won't be as quick as the Columbian I restored last Saturday since this week I was off Thursday and today. I'll hopefully get it cleaned up tomorrow night after work, depending on how cold it gets tomorrow and if I have any energy left after the Valentine's Day event the winery I work at puts on.

Anyone recognize this little guy from that big auction by the Bay? Made in England, but by who?

(TecoMaster was the Eaton's department store house line BTW - Eaton's was Canada's biggest department store chain at one time.)

Is there any interest in collecting photos of members' Fly Speck vises?

Another flawed Rock Island here...notice the backward C or is it the number 3? :dunno:
A model 148 with the below the bench swivel locking wing nut and 5 inch jaws currently on C/L asking $200 (not mine)

Got some 2.5" jaw covers for my little Reed. I may try to polish the tops of the covers before I form them to the vise. I think it will look awesome with Satin black paint.

Man, that's a tough one, even after making it bigger and fiddling with it a bit. I'm leaning a tiny bit to a 3, only because it looks too closed to be a "C"

Nothing. Double stamping voided any warranty, (fraud) and it should be disposed of. PM me for the official disposal site shipping address.

Those jaw covers are really nice, and will look great polished over the satin base, make the combo a great showpiece! Where are they available from?

I've got a little one like that to sell one of these days. Not sure if refinishing it will bring more money than original or not? I personally like original.

Leave it original! On a little one like that, you can't do any better refinishing it. Looks like a Prentiss. Is it a salesman sample?

It is a Prentiss, I at least need to get the pin free. You can barely make out Prentiss (it's easier to see in person), it's in a half circle curving up.

+1 on keeping original.---If it was all rusty and didn't have some of the original paint or remnants of a very old refurb, I'd say slap the paint on it.---But as is , you'll just be diminishing the value.
