Hello, in my garage there are two 4ft shop lights that came with the house have shat the bed, so I need some new ones. They must plug in ones since my garage wiring is already is a mess since the person who did it was probably drunk, so I don't want to open a can of worms. I have been researching them and it seems like the ones less than $15 are really hit or miss. I would like to keep the cost under $25 each including bulbs, so around $20 for the fixture. The garage gets cold as **** so they need to be able to work in the cold.

the ones lowes sells are nice.. they have the end link capability, and electronic ballasts so they work from zero degrees...

my next choice would be the cooper/metalux fixtures..

if you get on ebay they have the single strip led lights for like $15 each.. you have to buy like 5 or 10 or 15 or 20 at a time and the price goes down with the more you purchase.. I would go this route.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LED-Integra...b8d5264&pid=100033&rk=1&rkt=4&sd=281446465749

I bought some of the Lowes 4' shop lights for around $12 each. Then you have to buy the bulbs- got out for around $20 each. Then I put them up. Got the first one up. Then getting the second ready to go up, the ballast in the first fried and it went out. Put the second up- pulsed and flickered. Put the third up replacing the first. Put the 4th up. Then as I was getting down off the ladder the 4th fried its ballast. Pulled them all down and took them back. Stay away from those cheap Lowes lights.

More expensive, but I went with Home Depot's Commercial Electric LED's. Great lights so far.

I have several of these $18 ones up for a couple years, had 3 out of 20 DOA, all the rest so far so good. http://www.lowes.com/pd_420867-43921-MXL-103_1z0vgb3Z1z0y4zoZ1z140qi__?productId=4013485&pl=1

I've got 8 of those.

They have short cords and plugs and chains for hanging. White reflector.

Buy in groups of 3 and use the $10 off $50 coupon code and order online for pick up at your local store.

Buy T8 Daylight bulbs by the pack and combine with lights to use the coupon code as well.

Electronic ballast so good in freezing temperatures, buy may interfere with electronics.

That anything the size and content of a four foot light fixture can be retailed for $12 (or even less!!) is mind boggling.
Considering the time and effort required to R&R the fixtures, going for a higher quality unit is probably worth the money.

The lights turned out about as well as expected, they worked once and by the next time I went into the shop they shat the bed. I swear every time I buy something at lowes I end up wishing I **** started a shotgun instead.

I took them back and got a led fixture at sams club, I think it was a honeywell but I don't remember. It actually works in the cold and it is very bright, nearly burnt my retinas out when I tried it out when it was pitch black in my basement. Worth every penny because I don't have to deal with bulbs anymore.

The SAM's club Led 4ft lights are very popular on this forum, they have their own thread, suppose to be brighter than the COSTCO ones too. I am stock piling some of the Sams club version, have 5, need 5 more for my shop. Never will go back to fluorescent, to much hassle, IMHO.

I just saw this thread and that you are also in New Hampshire. You could have gotten LED 4-ft complete fixtures at Home Depot under your $25 point. They had the Commercial Electric brand for about $32, and a mail-in rebate for $10 back on each ! Net = $22. I have two in shop and one in basement and wish I had bought more. I looked the other day and it looks like 2016 rebate is $8 each and price is now $39, so net $31, but I keep an eye on price anytime I'm in store. Rebate is for the whole year for up to quantity 20 fixtures, rebate comes from PSNH/Eversource.

Are the ones you getting lights of america or honeywell? My store had the LOA on display but only seems to carry honeywell. I looked at the both very closely and they are nearly identical besides minor details like the HW has no #'s on the led's.

See atttached...

Thanks . This is going to bug me until I find out what is going on, I might go to sams today for some stuff and take a closer look while I am there. I will probably get at least another one for the shop this summer, might be a bit overwhelming since it is only a 10x10. On the bright side (pun intended), if someone breaks into the shop and turns on the lights they will burn their retinas out :eyecrazy:.

What is the coo on them? Sam's site said assembled US with imported parts. HW are china, but are pretty much identical. Maybe honeywell is the oem for all the parts and L.O.A assembles them here?

Honeywell doesn't make any of this. Some company in China is paying them royalties for the use of their good name and assembling them in China. LOA is buying the parts from the same company and assembling them in the US so that they can claim "USA assembled".

That sounds about right, most likely why there was nothing to be found when searched by model # or honeywell led shoplight.
