I now hate every wrench I own

I am always reading about the Wright wrenches on here but never had the chance to hold one in person till today. I have to say wow, I honestly think they are the nicest feeling wrenches I have ever used, I would love some but I have too many wrenches already, unless someone would like to make me a nice offer on a bunch of ,Craftsman, Snap-On, SK, Pro Grade, Allen, Masterforce, Master Mechanic, and probably some other odd ball wrenches.

I went back and forth between buying wrights or Williams. I went with wrights because of the open end but I am looking at picking up a Williams set now. I wish I could of seen both in person before i bought wrights. For me, I miss the length of the wrench. I am comparing the length of the wrights to snap on (same as Williams). Don't get me wrong, sometimes the length gets in the way too.

I used my Wright wrenches for the first time last weekend when changing my oil. The shop that did it last used an impact to put on the drain plug so I'm glad I had a Wright in my hand instead of my father's flesh-eating Craftsman RP.

I was very happy with my craftsman rp till I watched that video on YouTube that compared wright a soon and craftman. Bought a set of wrights, actually two (metric and standard) and couldn't be happier. Never knew what I was missing

Better to have Hind-sight, rather than Hind-end ASSumption .

There are some good wrenches to choose from... Best to try them all before judging them all.

The reason a person prefers one brand or style may vary with each person; price, feel, quality, features, availability, coo, all come into play.

I can't wait until the day I can pass on my wrench sets to my daughter (or son if I have one) so I can justify buying a set of Wrightgrips! My problem is I have very complete sets up to large sizes that would cost me a fortune to replace.

I don't have sensitive hands to wrench size or shape but I have used one straggler Proto 500 wrench a lot that I really enjoyed. Too bad the rest of the set isn't around.

Just buy the smaller sets and double up on the most used common sizes, Wright make a nice standard combo wrench, so glad I bought the 958 set, will be getting the SAE in satin though.

I do wish they were available in long pattern or they'd make the standard length longer. They're beefy as hell so why not give the user more reach and leverage? If also like to see the box ends have more offset angle from the handle as they tend to run a bit shallow on offset.

to me, the few williams wrenches i have feel much better in the hand than the SO's i got...bigger beam, more rounded edges, doesn't dig into your palm so ****** hard when ya crank on it

i beg to differ...late production US and current chinee rp wrenches **** out loud, for anything other than light diy use

and i can confirm the club thing for the big williams...i have a 1 1/2 super combo i found at the pawn shop...damned thing is useful for wrenchin, and beatin the **** outta your service manager if he pisses ya off

I have Wright grips and will say I like these wrenches very much and I give them high marks. That said I don't think I would give up my SO or Mac wrenches. The Wrights are big beefy wrenches and great for general mechanical work. But maybe because I'm use to years of use with my SO and Mac, I wouldn't want the Wrights as my main mechanic set. If all you have is craftsman RP wrenches, Wrights are the greatest bang for the buck upgrade you can do.

I'd take those flesh mangling RP's over the Kobalt/Williams wide flat handle.

My palms are bigger than average but I have average fingers (length not girth : ) ) but man those wide shanks would cut in when you have to put some torque to loosen anything.

My 'dream' set is the satin Wrights. For now my 6 pt RP's and 12 pt Taiwan Kobalts get the job done.

The Wrights are very nice wrenches. I have a full set of metric/SAE Wrights as well as as every Snap-On wrench you could imagine. I can tell you that the Snap-Ons can sometimes reach tighter places and the angle on the box end is different (better for most things in my opinion) but other than that, they are both super nice to use! Comparable? Hell yes!

who made the old USA satin finish kobalt wrenches? i got one in 7/8 that appeared in my toolbox(literally, i do not know from whence it came) and i got to say i like the feel of it...not as much as my williams wrenches, but it is better than an rp anyday

I have Matco,Mac,Craftsman and Snap On wrenches including a couple Cornwells.I like them all.Have the Gearwrench ratcheting wrenches which are not going to be used a lot after my SK x frame ratcheting wrenches come in next week.Seen them at the Auto Value tech show last weekend Saturday.I was impressed with the 1.7 degree turn and how smooth they turn.

Glad to see this thread. I made the choice today to switch from FD+ to Wright Grip. The choice had nothing to do with the wrenches themselves, because the FD+ wrenches are great. But, I have a full set of FD+ reversible ratcheting wrenches and only 8 of the regular FD+ combo wrenches (8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19mm). I felt it was a better idea to sell those 8, and buy the 18 piece Wright Grip set for just a little more than what I'll probably get for the 8 FD+ wrenches than to finish piecing the FD+ set together.

So, I placed the order for the new wrenches from HJE and started a 99 cent auction on eBay for the FD+

I'm quite fond of Wright grip wrenches, had a metric satin set but had to unload a while back. I have an individual 7/8 I use at work for toe clamps.

I don't know if it is because the clamps are case hardened, but I'm developing chrome chips on both ends of the open end. Also, on the high spot on the box end, where it would sit if laid flat, the chrome chipped off. I don't even really use the open end, perhaps occasionally. I'm not rough with my tools, either.

I love everything else about these wrenches but no other wrenches in the shop have chrome chipping. Craftsman RP (Japan and USA production), older Snap-on, even Pittsburg.

I have a metric and SAE Williams Superwrenches with Cat branding.

I do like my Wrights a lot and they are an excellent all around bang for the buck. For anyone used to craftsman RP or any entry level type wrench these will be like a renaissance. My absolute favorite is still my Snap On FD+ wrenches though. Their long pattern handles, open ends and boxed ends are designed to be thin but very strong to give the user reach and access to turn fasteners in cramped quarters. Wrenches with bulky open ends, thick boxed ends and big thick beams inspire confidence and might be great for guys working on machinery or equipment with room to work but on a cramped modern car with no access they feel like you're using a dinosaur femur bone for a wrench.

Like Fedwrench said earlier, there's no one perfect brand of wrench for everything so that's why many of us have multiple brands and types. And don't get me wrong, I won't be getting rid of my Wright Grips just because they're not my absolute favorite. They're still great wrenches.

My main goto set was an 8-24mm gearwrench set with the xl beam with a variety of sears, autozone and advanced auto that was bought as needed and I always assumed these were good enough as my dad just had junk sets and my grandfather always praised craftsman . bought the wright satin on recommendations from here and can't believe the quality difference not to mention I love the feel of the satin over polished.
Also sent a 9/16 wrightgrip to a machine shop to try out and its become a favorite of one of the workers there.
