I liked Craftsman when they were USA made, but the problem is if I brought a NOS Craftsman USA tool(s), and they needed to be warrantied, it would be replaced by an inferior tool that I would have to resell and replace with USA made tools.

Curious how walmart had craftsman tools, and a box of them that were made in USA. Price checker rang up $20; even. Was tire and lube walmart, so maybe they order them for the mechanics? not sure.

I tried Walmart.com and nothing pulled with Walmart as the seller. Some others on their website were selling Craftsman tools. Where is the Walmart store with the Craftsman tools located?

I had the same experience last year. I brought in 2 USA made 1980s CM teardrop quick release ratchets - 3/8in and 1/2in for warranty and they tried to give me Chinese made ratchets. I asked for USA made and they checked in the back and found none. I said forget it and I'll fix them my self. Ended up buying those repair kits from Ebay and doing them myself. They work great now.

Just old stock. My Ace is mostly China now. Took a while to catch up to Sears.

Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk

Same here. All of the stock is Chinese. Same with Kmart.

I'll just buy at harbor freight. If I'm going to get Chinese quality, I'm not going to pay American made prices like Sears is still charging for Craftsman.

Sears has always given me the repair kits when we had the COO conversation. Never had to buy one.

Hopefully Craftsman doesn't become the Walmart Brand of Tools :(

Easy what you say.

Besides possibly hurting the tool trucks, I think it would be great for USA to manufacture top-notch home grade tools and have them available 24 hours a day.

Of course, it could be quite a battle between WM and HF. I dont think anyone can beat HF prices, but who cares about money anyway. WM selling USA tools typically on par with tool truck quality for old Sears 'non-sale' prices could be a good thing for alot of companies, business, consumers, home-owners, employees.

And the tool trucks could even chip in and make a tool here and there and hide their manufacture location somewhere on the tool

Yes, a complete USA line...instead of country of origin it will be city, state origin- since all will be domestic. But we may source materials globally.

In this day of age, its quite difficult to pin-point the source of every material used to make just about anything. There really isn't much 101% Made in the USA these days. The laborers in China manufacturer to meet massive demand for those that trick-o-treat for cheap tools, whereas American workers meet demands at a much smaller scale to tool owners that value quality in tools. I've gone through the whole spectrum, enough to assess the different strengths of steel from around the world, especially by how well they're forged.

It's great to see Channellock and Wilde making tools in the USA for every type of customer. It's time to see the tool trucks do the same. It could take a while though before we see anything rise to fruition. :)

The last time I was at Walmart they had a bunch of tools with the Stanley brand name. No Craftsman anywhere to my knowledge. Maybe I will take a closer look when I go there next time.

Sears tools havnt been anything to go ape over since before 1980. They are no worse now, the one you get from China may even be better than the broke one in your hand you are trying to trade. The fact that is broke should make it obvious.

USA? You think walmart would bring back Craftsman from China? :lol_hitti

That's a good one...rather, expect the screwsticks and punches/hammers to also go over seas if that ever materialized.

I can count on one hand the number of times I had to "warranty" a Craftsman tool in my 50 years of tooling.

Interesting.....well when Sears goes under, Walmart is the most likely company to buy the Craftsman name so maybe this is just a trial.

I would think the vast majority of Guaranteed Craftsman hand tools were abused. Probably to exploit the warranty and they didnt cost alot. Take a Snap-On twenty dollar wrench (vs a Crastsman @ $1-$2-$3 ) and you will probably treat it alot nicer.

I was going through an old tool set and found a smaller deep well (maybe 7mm) that was fractured. Maybe a ratchet that wouldnt hook up/just spins' and a 1/4" ratchet that the drive wobbled-but the replacement did too so maybe I went overboard.

I think a Husky ratchet (from probably 15 years ago) broke. I forgot why, but also a 3" extension from where I stepped it up to a big socket to remove the front hub center nut on a FWD car with a 3/8" ratchet. It is cool when you grow up and go at things ignorant when young. Neat things can happen vs studying the manual and doing it pro like.

Poor Sears, I wonder how many screwdrivers they warranted from abuse due to leaving them on the ground, used as chisels, prybars, punches, tow-links? They costed what, a dollar or two or three and we kill them and go warranty them.

Someone said, you either stay in business or give it away. You cant give it away forever and stay in business--------or something like that.

OP . . . . . think I figured it out !!

What you found at WalMart must have been the "dump" of last Made in USA.

Now, the Sears website has regular price $26.99 for same thing

My guess is that the "5" says it was made in 2015, and the "C" is for china. I'll take that beer, now LOL

You might be right I don't see USA anywhere in the pics or description anymore. Maybe they"ll dump a ton of them at the outlet stores for $8 ea and we can stock up :D
