The reviews on Amazon for the Knipex Vise-Grips are not pleasing to the eye for some reason. Might as well try Grip On for less than $19 instead.

At that price, I'd probably just buy knipex on Amazon.

Guess I'm lucky to live around 3 decent flea markets. Peterson vice grips are almost a staple at the tables. So many that I can be real picky and only buy the real nice ones, always pay between 7 and 10 dollars. Wouldn't even think about buying them at that price NOS or not

^ I'm tending to agree with you on that one, although unfortunately we don't have any real "swap meet" deals around here, so Ebay and CL are pretty much the only options.

Epsteins has some better deals that cater to all, but they also have a small "snob" clientele that can pay large prices for impeccable vintage items or very high end items. Nothing wrong with that in any way, just that those things and prices aren't for me, or most people really. I'll buy their deals though for sure when there is value to me. - Paul

I have always been baffled by everyone's lust for the US Made vise grips :wtf:

I understand the Chinese vice grips are pure garbage but, the grip on locking pliers sold under brands such as Proto and Snap on are sooo much better than anything else. I know the grip ons are made in Spain but, they are really good. :dunno:

This topic has been debated and discussed in many threads. Grip Ons are the best modern you can get pretty much - no problem with that. If we mostly like German Knipex stuff, we can also like Spanish Grip On stuff. But the Petersen Vice Grips had perfect heat treatment, so are very very hard but are not brittle, and will last a few lifetimes without wearing out the jaws. Nobody else has been able to do that. And Protos by the way all used to be rebadged Petersen Vice-Grips until recently. In fact, getting Proto versions, or several other versions, of the real Petersen Vice-Grips is often a way to get them cheaper as not everyone realizes the Petersen's were made for many many other brands back in the day. Some have turned up under Wilde name, some under Master Mechanic, others too. - Paul

Same here, I went to a garage sale several weeks ago and they had some on a table with a price tag of $25 for the 5WR, small long nose version and $30 for the 7WR.

Same here. The last garage sale I went to, the seller wanted $25 for a beat up 7R and didn't budge on the price. He had 10 of them and wondered why no one was buying them.
