Sears with Shop Your Way Points (Save $$$). The Craftsman Cobra / Adjustable Pliers are the Knipex Rebrands (Made by Knipex themselves, in Germany)
Amazon / eBay (Great Selection, Used & New, just need a little effort in searching as there are way too many models to choose from)

Also, lastly and interestingly to note, Home Depot recently started stocking some Knipex. Be sure to use that $5 off $50 coupon to get your money's worth.

Its been a while since Lowes stocked Knipex Tools; I believe they don't carry them anymore.

You can buy Knipex from Amazon.de for far cheaper than any store in the USA.

Also, there's a further 20% discount when you get to the checkout page, as exports to US don't pay VAT. Only catch is the shipping fee, this can be minimised by buying >$100 worth.

I was put onto tbs-aachen.de by someone else on the forum, their prices have been unbeatable so far.

I've used tbs-aachen.de and they're good. But no one beats Amazon's customer service and return policy, in case something goes wrong.

First rule in buying German tools: buy them from Germany and save a bundle!

Random product:

Knipex 86 03 250 10" Pliers Wrench

Amazon.de - EUR 40.40
Chads - $44.49

I'm not seeing the savings from Germany.

Yeah but chads can be a nightmare to deal with need I say more...

Amazon.com cobra 3pc $99
Amazon.de same 3pc set 65euro - vat = $55 dollars

The issue is buying enough for free shipping, but it's knipex so that won't be tough

There's a 20% discount at checkout, did you read my initial post?

Here's Knipex best sellers on Amazon.de, most items you'll save at least 20%.

No 1 Knipex bestseller (112 in DIY & Tools) on Amazon.de: 78 61 125 Electronic Super Knips EUR 14.49 (USD $16) vs USD $23.70 on Amazon.com :shocking:

Shipping kills the deal unless you buy a lot of tools. I have $170 in Hazet tools in the cart now and shipping is EUR 17.89.

And the I Hate Chadstoolbox bandwagon gets old. If you don't mind sometimes waiting for item it's not a problem.

Sometimes you score great Knipex deals on eBay as well from hardware_sales and GreatBrands

I think I've mentioned this earlier, but its very odd not being able to find Knipex tools locally in Germany. However, most online stores have them readily stocked.

I dare you to list the items that you have in your cart on Amazon.de. I bet the same items on Amazon.com or from any other store in the USA would cost at least 30% more.

For Hazet I agree with you. That's why I am looking at amazon.de for Hazet.

But Knipex is more readily available and thus more competitively priced in USA. Amazon.de deals aren't as attractive.

Example: I added that Pliers Wrench to my order and it increased my subtotal by EUR 34 (vs tool price of EUR 40), but then increased my shipping by EUR 2, plus added some pre-pay import charge of EUR2.

So before my total was USD $213.98 but when I added the EUR 40.50 (before 20% discount) my total went to USD $257.68.

So the $44.49 Chads tool increased my amazon.de price by $43.70. Not really any savings there.

The point of all of this is beware of blanket statements that you can get awesome savings by buying from Germany. You really need to do detailed comparison and choose what you want wisely. Sometimes it means adding/combining tools and sometimes it means just buying from other site.

The Knipex 86 03 250 10" Pliers Wrench is not a good example. Here's why: unlike Americans, Europeans prefer comfort grips. That's why the first page of Knipex best sellers on Amazon.de is mostly comfort grips pliers. Obviously the best sellers in Germany is priced much better than something that doesn't sell well.

Therefore, lets look at that same 10" Pliers Wrench in comfort grip i.e. Knipex 86 05 250, after 20% discount EUR 35.88 (USD 39.57) vs $56.55 on Amazon.com My point: the best selling items in Germany (not USA) would be a much better buy.

Warranty is going to be a lot harder across an ocean too (if any). Plus it takes much longer to arrive and amazon.de has a way of packaging poorly. That said, Chads takes a long time to arrive too.

Ok I add that and it increases my total by $44. Not too bad. But it's only good if I buy a lot. If I'm looking for 1 or 2 tools then shipping eats up any savings.

On the contrary, Amazon.de packaging is much better than Amazon.com I believe Euro workers have a much higher minimum pay and take pride in their work.

I live on the other side of the world and shipments from Amazon.de or Amazon.com get to me in about 1 week, that's with the cheapest shipping option. I've only had to warranty an item once, Amazon paid for shipping both ways!

Disclosure: I've ordered many times from Amazon.de and Amazon.com

Do you pay shipping from Amazon.com?

For me in US I usually get free shipping from them and if Chad's is over $150 then shipping is also free. That's likely why we have different perspective.

I do admit though that $20 shipping for about $200 worth of tools from Germany is not too bad.

Interesting. Last time I ordered from Amazon.de it took 2 weeks and when it arrived it was so poorly packaged that I gave it one good shake and everything fell out (it was one of those side-flap packages, and one of the flaps was completely unsealed).

Yes, I pay a modest shipping fee for small tools. I'm aware that most of you don't.

Proof of my shipment time, took about a week (bear in mind I'm on the other side of the world!). A number of reasons could've caused your damaged shipment e.g. USPS, customs inspection.

LOL, you don't have to provide proof, I'm not accusing you of lying, just saying my experience was different.

You can save buying from Germany depending on what it is. Hazet is one of those brands. You can check the new SWW articles here http://www.jensputzier.com/Hazet-Tool-Shop/SWW2016

Those buying from amazon.de, I noticed they charge import fee deposit during checkout, is anyone having to pay import fees before receiving it from DHL?

It appears Sears noticed the increase in the number of Knipex tools they sold recently. Now, their prices have gone up an average of $10 dollars! Check out Mobile Distributor Supply, their prices are absolutely more competitive. There's also eBay seller, greatbrands
