Knipex 8603250 10-Inch Pliers Wrench $39.98 (free shipping)

Mobile Distributor Supply has a 25% off deal on Knipex. Their banner ad says "tool sets" but it looks like all their Knipex inventory is on sale.

Thanks, Ive been wanting the pair of 5" cobra/pliers wrenches (FYI its only $52 for the pair if you buy them seperate, $79.99 if you buy the pair with the belt pouch. Doubt a little nylon pouch is worth that. )

Yea, I ended up just buying the 7" version of the two wrenches cheaper with the same logic that I didn't really need the belt pouch and I felt that 5" wrenches were a bit small anyway. If I do end up wanting the set with the pouch, Father's day isn't too far away

Agreed. I already have the 7" cobra and I have the 10" pliers wrench. Once I have the 5" pliers wrench for a while I'll make the call on the 7" pliers wrench.

Been hoping to see some of hte pliers wrenches on sale for a while. Not a great sale, and after I got charged sales tax since I'm in TN, it wasn't really any better than TOoltopia. But I just finished up what I really have been waiting for, and got the 3 piece set, plus the single 5" pliers wrench. And it came in one day, remarkably!

Better pricing than Sears and Amazon, no doubt, thanks! :)

Slightly not true. The Sears Craftsman version of the Cobras wrenches as a two pack is a much better deal than any Knipex direct. Very same pliers functionally to me. Use Sears points even. You can also get the Knipex pliers wrenches or proper Cobras through Sears with points deals and should be able to get cheaper that way. - Paul

The Cobras are the only Knipex pliers Craftsman rebrands,
There is no Sears - Craftsman version of the Knipex pliers wrench.

Yes, but we were talking about both, pliers wrench and cobras. I meant cobras for the Craftsman deal much cheaper. BUT, you can also get the Knipex pliers wrenches from Sears, and with points, can get them cheaper than here too. That is how I got the ones I have. - Paul

Got the 10" Pliers Wrenches for $18 from Sears with Points
I had another offer, $30 for the 10" Pliers Wrench had I used my other points for something else.

Either way, I recently used my Shop Your Way points for solely Knipex

Coming back to topic on MDS's Knipex Sale,
Save an additional 10% on your First Order,
Coupon Code: SAVE10 (Worth it provided if order is $49.99 or more as shipping is free!)
Makes the deal sweeter especially if you're being charged state sales tax in areas which require state sales tax to be applied, regardless

The craftsman version is NOT the same as the Knipex Cobras. They are similar, but by no means identical-

I've held them side by side, the craftsman version is a great tool, but not nearly as nice as the Knipex. The level of finish is higher on the Knipex, they are smoother operating, and have more adjustment 'teeth' so more positions, and a wider grip range. Also, the teeth on the craftsman version weren't as nice... the Knipex were machined better. I suspect that some other things about the manufacture are also not quite the same- Materials, heat treating, etc.

The craftsman seemed OK, but I'd rather spend a BIT more and get the Knipex myself.

andgott, that is VERY interesting, as Knipex did and does make both of them. They must be making a slightly lower quality version for Sears then. Very good to know. I had thought them the very same. They are still the much better deal, as discussed, unless you want to spend more for those small differences. - Paul

^ ^ ^ ^ Depends on WHEN you bought the Craftsman copy of Knipex.

I've got older 7" Craftsman which is EXACT duplicate of the Knipex shown above.
All mine says is Craftsman on upper portion (instead of Knipex) and bottom says Made In Germany. On back it has 45431 for model number.

The newer ones on Sears website are like picture above. However, my Craftsman that I bought couple years ago is EXACT match of the authentic Knipex.

P.S. Below is PIC of packaging of the Craftsman version of older Knipex 7" copy (ie the model # 45431) that guy is selling on CL in Portland for $20 . . . notice the long nose which matches authentic Knipex.

The pliers wrench is one of my favorite hand tools of all time, if not my favorite. Man are those nice. I use them all the time.

I have two 10"s but I might pick up a 12", undid some flared copper LP gas piping tonight and I could have used a bit more leverage. I can see the 5" coming in handy as well.

Yes, I need to go look at mine again closely as I think mine are the exact same as well and are older. This is very interesting and good discussion.

Ishi, I also like my Knipex pliers wrenches alot. I got both from Sears with massive crazy points deals they once had. I think I paid actual about $25 for my 10" and about $20 for my 7" pliers wrenches. Now those were good deals. Still ALOT for what I would pay for an adjustable wrench, but these are nice. I could see a 5" and a 12" also being useful, but I won't pay more than $25 for either one! The 7 and 10 cover the range for most people pretty well I think. - Paul

You mean to say that Sears lowered the quality on a Craftsman item? Impossible!

Are the new ones still made in Germany by Knipex like the old ones? Craftsman might have done a licensing thing here and had someone else make the new ones to save cost. Just a thought. Else, must be made to a lower quality standard than normal Knipex. I'm not sure Knipex would want to do that though. Not like them to make anything of lower quality. - Paul

A question regarding the Knipex Pliers Wrenches:

Comfort Grip handle, or the regular handle?

Some say they try comfort grip, then never go back to the regular handle. Some like me, only have the regular handle. The regular handle feels comfortable. The comfort grip may come in the way in very confined places.

They're the same exact thing, I'm not sure where folks are drawing their conclusions from. :headscrat

Oh I see the difference now, I apologize. Thank you very much for pointing that out. That design discrepancy is not good at all. Did Knipex and Craftsman part away from each other? Mine are the same as the original Knipex. I hope I don't have to warranty them.

See Andmott's photos Win, very different now. - Paul

Very same questions I have Win! We need a verification of who is making the Craftsman current ones. Still say made in Germany on them? Sears may have had someone else make them using their "design license". Sears has done this many many times before for other things. - Paul

The stock photo andgott used is from when the Craftsman pliers were based an older Cobra design, before the number of adjustments increased and the jaw profile changed in 2009. Current production appears identical save for the grips. Photos borrowed from a thread on Slickdeals.

I have the Cobra's as well but I never use them, they are nice but just a high-end water pump pliers.

The plier wrenches, on the other hand, have no competition!

Thank you outdoorspace. andgott got us all worried there for a while. :eyecrazy: Then again, hopefully Sears Craftsman doesn't go cheap on us by contracting with someone other than Knipex for these pliers.

Yeah, the pliers at my local Sears were the old style, apparently. I'm not surprised that they have old stock there, much of that tool department is covered in a thick layer of dust. I do wonder what exactly you'll get if you order- they show the old style on the website which is why I went to the store to check them out.
