Knipex?

I had never heard of the brand until I started reading this forum. Now when I see that word, I get all Howard Huges and it repeats over and over in my head, lol.

Anyways... Is it nip-X, nye-pecks, kuh-nip-picks, or something else entirely?

I would also say Nye-Pex, though I know it is really Ka-ni-pex.

It's either nip icks or ni pecks or maybe even nip ecks, hard to tell with the UK accent.

Or kuh nip ex or kuh nip icks, if you're from Germany. Again, hard to tell exactly due to the accent, at least for me.

Japan apparently is the same as Germany in regards to pronunciation.

This one seems to be kuh knee pex

I find it interesting how many different pronunciations there are even within the company itself. I figured everybody in the company would say it the same way and that would give us a clear answer.

Kuh-ni-pex

Back when Lowes was closing out their pliers I ran into this "Retired Electrical RF engineer" that insisted on correcting me that the K is silent "grasshopper". Told him he was wrong, pulled out my phone dialed the company and put it on speaker phone. Then gave him my usual "It must be difficult being old and ignorant" rant. :lol_hitti

I really have a mental block pronouncing the K. I will have to stick with my American "Nipex."

LOL! I am glad I'm not the only one who didn't know! Reminds me of the "how to pronounce Linux" argument in the IT world...

As Ricky Bobby would say: Your in America now, and we're Americans.

Along those same lines, The Geneva Convention clearly states that each of us, I am speaking to Americans and our Allies, can pronounce any word any way we want.

It's known as "The Spoils Of War".

Thank a Veteran.

The problem seems to be that in english there is no where a word starting with kn, where the k is pronounced.
So when the english speaking person tries to pronounce the k, it is almost impossibru for them not to add a vowel afterwards.

In my ears it sound as strange as if you pronounced crack as cirack

The how-to-pronounce YouTube video

Thanks for the video. That is how I thought the Germans said it.

I'll stick with nip ex personally.

I do business with a German based train brake manufacturer. It is Knorr Brake.
They pronounce it K nor. Took me a bit to get used to it but since they are spending money with me, I'll play by their rules.
