Don: for better or for worse i'm going to start looking at your thread and posting. I've seen some of your awesome things over the years and tried not to OOGLE at them or thing about them too much because I do like to buy STUFF and more than not I wouldn't be able to find your STUFF without selling off a few of my kids or wife.

that said I've always enjoyed your posts so I'm making my first post here and hoping I can find time to catch up on what you've already posted and done with your AWESOME GARAGE, SHOP, MAN CAVE.

cheers

You are welcome to join in on the fun at the party garage. There is always something going on here. I have enjoyed reading your posts all over the GJ
Please feel free to post here as the spirit moves you.

I see how it works. Now what happens when you finish that pump?

Well simon

I will have started 5 or 6 more projects before I finish the pump
Thats just the way it is around here. So I will fall into another project and start a few more.

Guys I'm sorry that it took so long to get back here but my computor has had issues (2500) viruses that took over and killed it.
But with the help of my sweet wife and one of my sons they fixed it while I was away.

Last weekend I tried something new. I was a seller at the Pomona swap meet rather than a buyer. Most of the stuff I have been pulling out of this old guys yard and barn is stuff I didn't want so I took it to the swap meet to get rid of it

21mfbx5.jpg

My truck was filled inside and out along with my trailer.
Most of it is gone now and I'm pretty happy with the results.

Now its time to go back and gather some more treasures.

I don't remember seeing any of that stuff on the GJ "For Sale" area....

You need to get a good anti spy wear program and a good anti virus program and keep them both up to date with a weekly check. Otherwise many of us will be asking why you have gone MIA from the forum. A weekly check is just as important as any project.;)

can I go with ya, can I huh, can I????;)
Here's hopin (and bettin) you din't take the pulley's.

BuickFarmer
Bring your gloves and a good respirator we're diving into the building where the varmints have lived for 15 years. Man the place smells bad.

I did take ALL the pulleys but only sold 3 of them, one of the big wood one. One mid sized wood one, and one 3 pulley metal one. So I guess there will be a place in my 30s garage for the rest of them to hang!!

I don't remember seeing any of that stuff on the GJ "For Sale" area....

mdbeck

There wasn't one piece in that truck that was small enough to ship/mail
What I see on the sales threads is mostly hand tools and I didn't have anything that weighed less than 50 lbs.

I can have a couple on the go but Don you have too many on the go.

I received the box in the mail and when I opened it up this is what he sent

Hahaha. That folding rule brings back some memories. I haven't thought of one of those things in years. And I can't remember when I last saw one. That was very nice of Gary to send that gift of old tools. I'm sure when you find a place for them you'll post another picture.

Just awesome Don as a friend said to me some time ago "we are just custodians of history" and I am sure you will do it justice.
What a fantastic gesture from KenworthW900L:thumbup:
Regards

1/2 CUP

I have cleaned and polished each one of them and placed them on the shelf in the 30s garage and I have a corvette club coming over in a couple of hours to view and enjoy them.

I'll tell ya, there are some really nice guys around here ;)

Great gift, enjoy :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Don: just curious on that truck and trailer load of odds and ends you took to the swap meet. i'm guessing you had to buy a spot or did you just park in the parking lot and sell things off your truck and trailer there? It looked like you had a nice red rototiller on the trailer that i'm looking to buy when I find the right one. I've got a few of those old bandsaws to restore so can you say or PM me and let me know what it might have sold for and was it running?

Kenworth: nicely done and looks like you are in my area so feel free to stop in the PNW (Pacific NW) thread in free parking so we can meet you because you sound like a great guy.

Hi Drivesitfar

Yes I bought 2 spaces @ $55.00 each.
I went into the swapmeet saturday morning at 10:30 A.M.
and before I could get out of my truck guys were buying the stuff. I finally got most of the stuff unloaded and sat around the rest of the day selling something every hour. at dark I cooked me some dinner on a little barbeque
and watched guys walking around with flashlights buying stuff.
A 10:30 P.M. I sold the last piece for the night so I crawled into the front seat of the truck and tried to get some sleep.
It started to rain around 2AM and it came down til around 6:30. The crowds started walking around after the rain stopped and by 12:30 I started loading the remaining stuff back on the trailer getting ready to leave having had a good morning, Then a new crowd of people started coming and I sold several hundred dollars worth of stuff off the trailer.
I drove around a little before leaving and found 2 treasures for myself
A sun distributor tester from the 50s and a 9' fatburger neon sign that needs a little work before I can hang it up.

The old bandsaw wasn't running and it is very rough I was asking $300. to start and went as low as $150 and still no takers so it will become yard art around here somewhere.

Thanks for checking in

Don

As I mentioned the other day. The corvette club came by to spend the morning in the party garage. We had 30 nice vettes and about 50 folks show up.

The question of the day was "How long have you been collecting this stuff
And they couldn't believe its only been the last 6 or 7 years that this stuff has shown up.

Here's a couple shots from this morning

Don: checking in and seeing your PICKENS. OMG how fat is your wallet when you leave the house? those brass wrenches are something I've never come across and I have a LOT of tools. also those kits and other stuff are amazing too.

one of our better welders in our area is just getting ready to retire, but he's had a metal cactus tree he made out in front of his shop for years. if he hasn't moved it to his home i'll take a few pictures for you if you like? I think it's one of those big arm Swaroes (sp?) that might look great with some whistles on top.

thanks for sharing and best of luck getting the juke box for a good price.

I've read to be careful making dust cleaning up some of the non sparking tools, it's supposed to be really bad for you to breath.

I love the train whistle idea that would be cool and fun. My #2 son has a train horn attced to a air blow gun. He enjoys surprising people with it at the body shop.

wow all those brass tools are just cool.

Just keeps getting better every time I stop by.
You need to expand. Hoarding is a problem but for those that make it show quality and share it, are needed. Keep em coming.

I don't spend as much as you may think. If you can get that pic. of the pipe cactus please do I would like to see it to get some ideas.
The juke box is mine, the owner is just not quite ready to let it go.

Thanks for the tip ShadowRuleZ

I've read that before too here on the journal. Fortunately the tools are all polished.

Hi JC

I will get those whistles hooked up but not until I know how many I will end up with My friend has dozens of them that he wants me to have.
My friend has been collecting brass for over 50 years and is excited to see it land in my garage because he knows it will be shared and appreciated.

Shadow: I think the tools that are toxic are COPPER BERLINIUM (sp?) and not brass and i'll let Don say if he knows for sure.

Drives, I believe you're right I have polished a bunch of brass.

Go on Don 'Just Do It' you know it would be fun for those that visit your place.

Ok Ok Ok Simon you win

Beryllium copper. Here's the info from the Berylco website: https://www.ngkmetals.com/index.cfm/m/95/ They're safe to use but be careful when grinding or polishing on them.

Thanks for the link Stuart

After putting away most of the treasures I gathered up all the pieces that need to be chromed from the 3 open projects on my work benches.

#1 on oil pump similar to the one I bought Saturday
#2 the step grinder I picked up a couple weeks ago
#3 a very ornate national candy scale.

38 small pieces

If you had a musically talented friend you could have them all arranged in a way where you could make a little song or jingle by pulling the cords just right. OOOOrrrr you could make some sort of self playing train whistle like the old pianos and organs. You know just in case you get board.

Or you could get a little dancing monkey with a collection plate, that would dance while the horns toot. This would help to defray the expense of buying peanuts.:lol_hitti
