Widen driveway 2ft?

Hi all,

So I am looking to widen my driveway about 2 ft. in one section. People (including me) constantly drive over the grass in this section because of the optical aspect of the trees on the other side (staying away from them).

Here is the area :

A little more information. The dirt area I am going to dig out and put in crusher run so it is not muddy when it rains. The pic with the yellow line is going to be a small stone border (like what borders the grass and the woods). The 2 ft area along the side of the driveway, I would like to asphalt. Can I do cold patch? Is it cost prohibitive for a crew to do such a small area? I am planning on sealing in the fall so that should help minimize the visual difference. Any suggestions?
Drives me crazy when people back out in their tiny hondas all over the grass. I do it occasionally, but my Excursion is not exactly small....

Remove the sod and topsoil down about 4", contact your local landscaping contractor and buy some geotextile or ground sheet. Use 3/4" gravel with fines, wet it down, just damp, and compact with a plate tamper. Extend your rock border to include the driveway and enjoy a cold one.

Just a quick addition, anytime you want to compact rock to make a hard surface, it has to have sharp edges to bind together. Take a handful of marbles and a handful of crushed gravel, and compare.

You need to distract folks focus on the optical effects of the trees, a strategically placed big rock will do that.. I had a engine block in front of mailbox at one house. It was a smashing success

ha! I would most likely be the one to hit the rock. ( I did hit the tree once.... )

Ayuh,.... I don't see any picture, but anyways,....

I'd recommend ya dig out the area 'bout 6"/ 8" deep, 'n back-fill with 3/4" minus crusher run stone,.....
If it's a wet spot, consider the geo-textiles,...

For blacktop, it'll need to be fully compacted at 2" below finish grade, gotta leave room for the blacktop,....

'n save yer dig-out material,...
You can use some of it to backup the edge of the asphalt,...
Top dirt oughta be dead flush with the top of blacktop,...
Dependin' on the grade, feather the dirt out from top of b/t a couple or few feet out,...

Cold patch won't work, no how, no way, it's junk,....

Call 'round to the driveway blacktoppers in yer area,...
Yer job is something they could pop in, 'n slam out, on the way to a full driveway job,....
Or, they may be able to do yer little job, when they're workin' a block or two away,...

If you get it fully prepped, ready to throw down the asphalt, it oughta be a reasonable price on it,...

I do this in the summers up here, 23rd season is 'bout to start in a month or so,......

I am looking at the row that has Gray #5, Gray #57, and Gray Crush-n-Run #26.
What is best for compaction but still have drainage. Currently, when it rains, the top layer of dirt/dust turns to mud and runs across the driveway. What is best for drain through?
