^ killer price on those pliers. they are definitely old stock, as Proamerica has gone to a rivet-type fastener (as opposed to the nut-and-bolt fastener on yours above.)
they must be cleaning out some old stock. have to check it out.

What kind of work do you do? And how could it be dangerous?

Offshore oil field.

Guys on the rig tend to use the larger wrenches as hammers. They are also often used to tighten 1/4" bolts because it's the closest wrench available. Of course that leads to over torquing and sheering bolts as well as many avoidable slips and busted knuckles. The safety oriented folks in town feel that a big way to decrease these hand and finger injuries is to limit everyone to 8" adjustable crescents or smaller.

Is that Channellock set from HD ?

Yes although I also picked up a pair of 6" cutters (#436) to use since that's the size I prefer. The 7" cutters that came with the HD kit I added to the toolbox on my garage.

Scored a bunch of tools recently.

I went over to a buddy's house to help him load up a trailer to take to the dump.
I happened to notice a 3/4 drive ratchet laying on top of one of the bins and asked him about it... it turns out he was literally THROWING AWAY tools!!

I dug and dug through the bins as fast as I could and filled up to 5 gallon buckets of random tools!
I found a blue point 3/8 impact, a blue point 1/2 air ratchet, blue point 1/4 angle grinder.
GP straight grinder 1/4, a set of snapon 3/8 drive, shallow SAE socets. 1/4 - 13/16 with a 3/8-1/2 adapter. almost complete set of SAE 3/4 sockets. 2 HF 3/4 Ratchets, an extension and breaker bar. A very long 3/8 HF extension, and an 8 PC irwin extractor set. a ton of Cornwell 1/2 swivel impact sockets, a brand new HF torks bit set, 2 HF impact 3/8 swivel socket sets. (Metric and SAE) a SAE bit set, 2 pipe wrenches, a battery terminal spreader, a handful of snap ring pliers, a 3/4-1inch impact adapter, 2 Snap-On wrenches, misc screw drivers and a ton of other stuff!
I also found this fancy(maybe) caliper. it doesn't have a dial or a digital read out. just a standard vernier caliper. I cleaned it up with a rag and it is very smooth still.
I will have to check on the brand and report back.

I unfortunately didn't have time to dig through all of the trash cans. He told me "there's probably a ton of tools in every one of these trash bins"
I left behind a ton of HF tools, not that they're all total garbage, but I didn't really need them and I would feel very guilty selling tools he was throwing away (I know that sounds weird, but it just would)
So, I walked away with a ton of FREE tools! I was pretty ecstatic.
I can get some more photos if anybody is interested.

Well I went and returned a burnt LED bulb at HD and got store credit. Was going to finally get me some milwaukee stuff. Wanted the 2 drill non hammer drill combo with the hard case and 4.0 battery and was gonna get the 3/8" ratchet as the free tool. My store wasn't doing the free tool promo and didn't have the right 2 drill combo i wanted.

So I went to Sears and got this for $3.66

In store pick up. Went to the store scanned my card. The timer starts up on the screen. Guy walks out 60 seconds later with it and I'm out the door.

You need to go back there and get the rest of the tools before he throws them away! You can sell them and split the profits with him or donate them just don't let him throw away buckets of tools!

BeardedWrencher,

That seems odd because it looks like they were cared for.

Maybe they cause bad memories for your friend.

I bet the men who crafted all of those tools you saved would give you a thumbs up for not letting their work go in vain.

I definitely wanted too, but they went to the dump very shortly after. I was really bummed I couldn't have rescued everything. I did my best though!

No offense man, but what the heck is wrong with your buddy? Crazy stuff to think about!
I don't know! He was laughing at me like I was insane for trash picking through tools! He has other tool sets and didn't like all of the incomplete sets and he got a little sucked into the man with the big red S van. So now he's a "snap on everything" kind of guy.

I even texted him after I left and said "I can't believe you would throw away tools, I'm so ashamed"
Haha.

Some of them definitely were. He has his initials scribed in a lot of the more expensive tools. They are all definitely very greasy, but very functional.

He did lightly mention a lot of the tools were his fathers and I know he passed away suddenly relatively early. So that may be part of it.

Got to love a snap on school discount

Just curious if u have a need for that stubby ratchet. I had one of those for years and never recall using it. I ended up selling it a year or so ago.

Picked up the OTC plastic trim removal set from Amazon, and a couple of locking 1/4-inch drive extensions from Mac.

IMG_1819.jpg

I was disappointed to find that the 10-inch tool doesn't actually lock on to any sockets and so I'm going to have to send it back for warranty.

How do u guys think I did. These are a little old but I seen a lot of people saying how durable these old snap on torque wrenches are.
Paid $100 bucks for the both of them total. They are in really nice condition
A 1/2" qjr-3250 that does 30-250ft lbs and a tiny 3/8 qjr -217b that does 30-200 inch pounds. Came with original paperwork.

I think I got a pretty good deal at HD yesterday. Have heard all the praise about headlamps, especially when I don't have a wife/girlfriend/kid to hold the light for me :D.

I only tested it. There was good amount of light wherever I look with the normal, 70 lumen mode.

Those torque wrenches should be fine. I would get the recalibrated and you'll be set.

I should be alright. Nothing leads me to believe these were abused or off so much that I need to spend the kind of money they want to "check" them.

I checked them against my barely used harbor freight ones and they matched up good with 2 different settings set to each of them. Not saying that it was a super safe bet against the hf ones but they were both about spot on so I trust them.

Was kind of excited on how fast shipping was. Finalized the order around 12:30 yesterday and ups dropped them off at 12:30 today. Probably doesn't hurt that Indy is only 3 hrs away
