:lol_hitti

the hell with the truck, i destroyed a friends stuff.. he;s nice enough to let me use his trailer whenever i want to..

i went to his house this morning and talked face to face, this wasnt something i wanted to give him a call or send a text with a pic...

You're a good man Chief. I've had "Friends" return mangled tools that were in near condition when I loaned them out. That was in the early days. I don't do that anymore unless it's a trusted friend who respects his own tools like I do mine.

I'm building a 9 drawer hutch with overhead shelves for the woodshop. I've got some projects that will require a lot of flat surfaces. Time for the tools to find a home. I built the drawers this weekend. Will hopefully install then populate them this week.

Didn't know garage door openers had torsion springs. :dunno: Shoulda done them both, save yourself some grief!

You are absolutely correct.. I've had so much trouble with my garage door openers, apparently that is what my fingers type automatically when not in deep thought.. lol

I've edited the post above.

Since I have two single stall garage doors (not a large double door) for my 2.5 stall garage, I replace them when they fail.. I've previously replaced the spring on the left side garage door we use all the time for "walk thru", twice now over the course of ~20 years in this home... Pict below is of the latest replacement..

Built a race car with my boy. These Lowes kits are perfect for his age.

Mostly been spring cleaning and getting rid of more **** that I don't need or have room for. I found a old vacuum pump and semi truck air brake tank from 2 different projects never finished. Bought a few plumbing adaptors and air fittings and a vacuum gauge. I can now pull a decent vacuum. I want to use it to resin stabilize wood for turning and degassing silcone for mold making, maybe even some vacuum bagging for veneer work.

That's actually a pretty good vacuum pump. There used to be one just like it in one of the labs at the pharma company I worked at.

I hope, regardless of what your friend tells you, that you fix the winch.

I rarely loan stuff out because of this. Most times, I just get stuff back broken with no offer to repair it. Sometimes, like when my neighbor bent the tounge of my 5x8 trailer, he offered to have it fixed, but it wasn't bad enough to go to the trouble of doing it... still, it bothers me every time I see it.

Make it right, & that trailer will continue to be there when you need it.

Local pick-a-parts will have tailgates for hella-cheap compared to new replacements.

Replaced the front brakes on my 2000 Saturn sl. The right caliper was sticking so I got rebuild kits for both. Snapped the bleeder off. Drilled it our and retapped, but the bleeder wouldn't seal. Had to get a 1/4" to 1/8" hex bushing to adapt the repair bleeder. Bled out the brakes and now on to clean up the mess.

Was going to work on the Spitifire rear suspension, but weather, time change, etc, put me off doing it. Hit up Harbor Freight over the weekend for their sale and really didn't see much of interest this time. I did pick up a 3 shelf cart to use in the garage. I have a merchandiser cart I love in the garage, but while it rolls great and has a nice top, it doesn't have any sort of storage and tools I use during any project get scattered. I don't have usable work benches in the garage, so carts are what I use.

Took a standard 3 shelf cart, added a plywood top that is a 1/2" wider/longer than the top shelf, added a frame under the shelf to strengthen the plywood and made it a snug fit into the open top of the cart. This makes it easily removable and retains the storage under the top if needed. The top piece is a simple carpeted floor mat that I trimmed to fit. It offers carpet on one side and rubber on the other so it can be flipped to either side for desired surface. It doesn't shift or move on the plywood top.

Things I added for convenience include an outlet strip and a 40' extension cord, screwdriver storage, magnet bar on the side and a few hooks. I had a loose fold up shelf I was going to use on a tool box but had no room for it, so it added to here with only minor modifications to the cart itself. This should be a nice cart to do vehicle projects with, and let me put all the chemicals I use on one of the shelves.

I feel your pain. I used to work on old Triumphs for fun. Spits, GT6's, and TR's. The only thing you can depend on with an old Triumph or MG is yesterday's drive.

At least the Spits and GT's had a tilt up bonnet to make east to climb in and use a wheel as a seat when working on the engine.

Terry

I'm working on my 68 Mk3 Spitfire ("Giles") and having tons of access is a big feature.

That right there... awesome idea. I have work benches but love having a spot to start a project I might not finish right away, and I could wheel this out of my when!

As for my garage today, I added more insulation to my barn west wall.
It is ALL done now, except for one 72" length b/c I ran out of insulation.
I am starting my addition on my house soon so I will have plenty to finish
up before I am ready to cover up the wall. Not bad to estimate at HD and
get within 6' of the total I needed! Next is spray foam the edges.

Turned mine into a sewing sweatshop for a few days. I'm making some large custom awnings to use outdoors with my Suburban, camping, desert excursions, amateur astronomy etc. And planned future HAM radio and CERT involvement.

Lost of details here

It's a variety of panels that can be arranged in multiple ways. Using 1.9oz ripstop nylon from ripstopbytheroll.com

Going to end up with two large trapezoids roughly 15' x 8', and a rectangle 15'x5'

And the whole thing compresses down smaller than a soccer ball. Plus poles. Which I also built.

Having a difficult time working with such large pieces, despite my large table.

The awnings are an earthtone brown very similar to Full Dark Earth / Coyote Brown. The rectangular panel is sized to the vehicle and is two sided, brown on one and blaze orange on the other. Depending on whether I need to be seen or not.

Whole thing's a sort of proof of concept. I can already tell I've made it a 'size' too small.

I put a trailer hitch on my Astro on Sunday, then did the trailer light wiring yesterday. All tested and ready to pull now!

Nice chassis!

No insult intended and I know how misleading pictures can be, but it looks like it's gonna have a TON of bump steer...

Tommy

Without any weight on the chassis, those springs are definitely throwing the geometry off, but that all disappears once you get an engine and body in place.

The Spitfire setup is a strange one with a rear suspension that features a transverse mounted single spring like you see with a Corvette. The vehicle is so light that in a turn the rear wheels can tuck under quite badly and spin you out. It's something that has been addressed in the aftermarket years after the brand ceased making vehicles with a camber compensator that is waiting to be installed once the other parts are done drying the paint.

These little cars are quite popular for SCCA and can be nimble and quick track cars when set up.

I get the unloaded suspension thing. Even imagining the suspension loaded it looks like the tie rods will never line up with the instant center of the upper and lower A-arms, that's all. Like I said, pics make it hard to say.

I saw a beautifully done Spitfire at an SVRA race last year.

Disassembled and painted some exhaust pipes for my bike....promptly bumped into the table they were on and knocked one of the heat shields over, buggering up the primer and first coat of black.

Got the rear suspension installed on the Spitfire. That was a lot longer than anticipated because the rear spring needed to be deflected enough to get the shocks installed. Without any weight on the chassis, attempts to bend the spring just lifted the chassis. I ended up making a brace to go between the chassis and and a ceiling joist. I was able to push up with a floor jack to compress the spring with the chassis held in place by the brace above. Doing that let me do the job easily, but it took a while of head scratching to figure out a solution.

Next up will be rear brake assembly and a camber compensator installed.

Did most of the install yesterday in the parking lot at work before I had to go in and at lunch. Had to do some final trimming at home with the dremel.

We removed the cinder block fence and pulled up some old garden concrete barriers.
Just starting to build the shop. Not sure if that counts as in, but it was 'in' the future work area.

Got my new self built wheels on the everyday bicycle. 32 spokes front and rear, big change in rim width so I had some serious adjustments that the inline cable adjusters just barely handle. I'll set them up for tubeless riding this summer and call it a day.

Installed some drawer locks the other day to keep this lil guy out of his moms things. Managed to get the drill bits put away before he got ahold of the case.5a4772f8497883967ebc8a40a64b1d09.jpg

Ha I'm just about to do this same sort of install in my '02 Suburban. Same unit too. Did you get the bypass for the motion limiter?
Trim nothing and go find you a 2003-2006 dash bezel, Chev/GMC pickups and Suburban/Tahoe, all the same bezel and it goes right on the earlier models. Only the stereo / air control section is shifted a little.
It fits a double-din stereo and you just have to move your climate controls down about 5/16". Everything else is in pretty much the same place. There's several youtube vids about the conversion.

Don't tease me, now I want to see the car. Some pics of the engine and 1/4 stats would be nice. :3gears:

Pass tech as being 100% stock almost everytime. Except the wheels so they usually don't fuss about me going too fast . It's been 10.00 @139.8 on pump so far (e85) It's a stock short block with forged pistons and rods, trickflows 255 heads, stock ported blower, larger 102mm throttle body 4.5" intake, long tube headers no cats too stock mufflers, big fuel system , I.d. 1300 cc injectors, mild cam, spinning the little blower to death 24k rpms making almost 17 psi with an engine that is moving a decent amount of air. Makes 800 at the tires on e85 and with the nitrous the goal is 1100 rwhp and 150 mph and mid to low 9s.

Stock transmission , stock rear , stock displacement and stock ish blower

Just your regular grocery getter that drives too Vegas with a/c seats and great comfort.
