lol, ok, let me know. What ya got and how much though.
Im on a fixed income now.
I buy them needing work to one degree on another if the price is right/according to the damage, and restore them too.
I also have the long patternmakers box too.
that one needed a fair amount of work on the top.
The repair came out only fair IMO, but its decent.
How many do you have?
Is Central Ohio near where the gerstner plant is?
I always wonder if they are more plentiful and cheaper there than other areas.

where did you buy the felt and latch's?
From Gerstner,
Machinist chest . com was decent the owner was a nice guy, unfortunately he passed away.
one of the fellows from the gerstner site may have brought the business.
he is a Nice guy too, Ken or Kevin IIRC.
i have not been fooling with them (machinist box's) as much as of late.
I need to get back on it, I have 2 in waiting.

I bought this small box (14 in. length) yesterday for $5. It's a beach in good shape with a very nice decal inside. The latch is a bit unique and works well:

I suspect it's fairly old.

Old Mac side box missing some drawers I got today for 25 bucks, no idea how old. No resto needed, I like all those years wear! Going to put some type of top on it and use it for a stand for my little Atlas drill press. Nice separate place for bits and taps/dies in box. Works for me!

I did a product comparison based upon a few facts and I think this is close to Gerstner's for these reasons:

1.) Gerstners description is for an acrylic felt, this one is also man-made.
2.) The website touts it as being metal friendly
3.) It is 7.00 a yard on eBay NOT $45 like on Gerstner. It is Kelly Green which is a nice dark green. There is a company on eBay located in NY city that cuts it by the yard with FREE shipping.
4.) It is stiff and 8oz

Don, check behind the labels on the inside of the drawers that have them. There may be a date code along with "Advertising Metal Display Co" there

And yes, you do indeed ****...

I was all excited to post my new purchase this morning until I read Don Long's post. Now I feel silly. Damn

*sigh*

I found a poorly worded CL ad Monday with this picture in it. I emailed the guy and we met yesterday afternoon. It's still in the car as I had to head straight to the dentist afterwards so I haven't checked the date of manufacture nor taken any more pictures. $25

Riley, That model was my very first "real" tool box. It still lives on in a friend's shop.

It's a really good box, but I outgrew it as it got too heavy to move from bench to truck bed on race day without first removing the bottom two drawers, so I replaced it with a similar sized Kennedy as a smaller top combined with the 2 drawer mid...

I already own three rollaway sets (including a big Snap-on that I suppose could be considered vintage now) so I certainly do not need another set. However, I am obsessed with 60s-70s Craftsman tools so this fits in well with my current collecting interests. I am on the lookout for the bottom and middle boxes next.

Pictured is my Snap-on and Craftsman sets. I bought the Craftsman boxes one at a time during the late 80s and early 90s.

Fifty, fifty, freaking fifty. That is one of my very favorite boxes for fifty dollars. You **** **** ****.
yeah, that is sweet!
What I like is the 2 drawers in the bottom, where the bin usually is.
I always sort id disliked those bins, I would rather have drawers.
Too bad you could not but those drawers, and add them to where the bin is.
I have 2 craftsman box's with the bins, I would like to add drawers instead.

Take a look at the 73 catalog for the "top of the line" rollers. IMO those are the hot setup esp. with all drawers... I think it was the "I" frame or "H" Frame...

I found a 72-73 catalogue with the "I" frame cabinets. There is a 9-drawer roller that I think is the biggest of the bunch (weighs 150lbs) that I have seen on GJ before. That's definitely what I had in mind. The catalogue also shows my 10 drawer chest that appears to be the biggest of all the top chests (77lbs).

I also see a red "Sears Best" 33 1/2" wide set that I've never seen before. If you have seen them before, what's your opinion on them?

Any idea how old this box set is??
It cost me $50.00

The box is late 50's. It had a short run from about '57 to '59. '60 is about when the classic grey and red combo came out. While I have never touched or seen one in real life, in my opinion, that has to be one of the nicest boxes of the late '50s based on drawer arrangement.

wow, Yes, Gerstner wants a bit more for the felt than that.
sounds Good Joe, Im sure you will be fine.
I have already used felt from the fabric dept at K mart in the past , with no ill effects, and it looked super.
They say some cheap felt, and ****** glues can "gas" and cause rust.
But l never happened to have that issue, using every day white Elmer's glue, and K mart green felt.:dunno:

Picking this up today for only $25. The seller is kindly bringing it to work with them so I don't have to drive an extra hour to get it. It's not the model I want, but I can't pass it up at this price!

Nice looks like mid 60's cause the extra piece between the drawers and flip up door. Curious on the year. What's the stamp say?

Picked up this Kennedy 520 yesterday for $20. In way better shape than I thought. Very nice paint and felt. Leather handle is a little rough. Have not done any age or value research yet.

got these 3 over the last week for around $75 (some were bundled with tools):

small Craftsman: the leather type wrap?? is failing in a few spots, a little rust, and missing the front cover.
medium Craftsman: great shape, came with small cart
Kennedy: needs good cleaning and new felt
