the wife and i bought our house a little over 2 years and everything was great in the house except the garage floor which the original owner did himself and did the entire thing wrong and half assed. so my father-in law and I as well as my father tore out the old floor, dugg down and poured the stone. the rest of the work is being completed by a friend who is a mason.

here are some pics. hopefully the new floor will be poured this weekend

I'm glad you explained what you are doing in the pictures. At first I thought I had been way to slack in the surface prep for MY floor coating.... :bounce:

:shocking:Hate that you are having to do that, but now is a great time to consider things like floor drains and possibly a lift, while your in that far!:beer:

i completely agree with you on that, but funds just are not there for the lift and there is not enough height there for me to do so without major reconstruction of the roof. i really wish that i could do that. as for the drain, i am pretty sure in my area that it is not alowed.

last night 8/21/09 the vapor barier was installed as well as the wire mesh, the expansion joint's were also installed around the perimeter of the garage. today 8/22/09 the concrete work was all done. there will be a relief cut put down the center of the floor as well on monday after things dry.

so the floor has been done for a week now. last sunday, tuesday and today we spent painting the walls. i know that once the concrete cures and i epoxy the floor i am going to want to paint the walls so i just did it now instead. we did a primer coat of kilz and then a base coat of exterior/ concrete paint in a satin white. then we topped that off with a blue stripe but ran out of time to finish that.

Nice work. The paint on the walls really brightens up that space. Are you going to coat the floor with anything?

thanks lucky strike. i will be epoxy coating the floor after the concrete cures, just doing the research for picking which brand i want to use. we are very pleased with how the walls came out and knew that once the floor was done we were going to have to paint the walls anyway since the floor would make the walls look crappy.

Veedubman;

Looking at the RentalZone stickers, the equipment and the vegetation / trees, I was going to guess that you were in Lancaster County. As I scrolled down, I saw the phone number on the crete truck (and the corn)-- I was close but off by a county or so.

Where you at? -- I might be your neighbor.

how much did that run you? i just moved into a house and the detached garage's slab is cracked to all hell

well my situation is a little different. my father-in law owns his own equiptment rental company so all the machines we used cost nothing, the labor was all free since it was me, my father in law and my father. i had to pay for a dumpster (350.00) and the stone (390.00). for the floor i paid someone to do it and it was 2 guys that i know that are both masons, they did it on the side for me and cost 2800.00 for everything. so all and all i would say that after the floor is painted i will have about $4,100.00 into it.

Yep, we're close. I'm in Compass, just in Chester County. My rear property is on the county line. I'm less than a mile from the intersection of 10&340.

Veedubs, eh? I was into watercooleds for a while. "All" I have left is a '93 SLC. It's not real pretty but is a strong runner. The bottom end has about 4,000 miles on it and was an OEM replacement. :)

What's your VW pleasure?

Your garage is shaping up nicely. It's too funny, but I have the same blue stripe. Ha.

ah yeah you are not too far away, i know right where you are talking about. i live near marsh creek. yeah, been into vw's since i was 16, so about 14 years now, owned just about every watercooled model there is except a corrado, but have always liked them. nothing better then the sound of a vr6 to me. right now i just finished building a 1990 gti from the ground up, NEW EVERYTHING. running an 8v motor swap from a 95 jetta with individual throttle bodies and a whole bunch more goodies. built the whole car myself in this garage before i redid it.
funny that you have the same blue stripe, my wife picked it out since the chips i am going to use in the epoxy floor have a close blue color to them
