I came to work today and my boss was dragging this perfectly good hardware cabinet to the dumpster. We had all been complaining we needed a larger hardware assortment and he bought one that is probably 10 times the size of this one. He asked me if I wanted this one and I said absolutely. A little TLC and it will be good as new...

He must have money to spare!

Bosses tend to have more money than time. lol. My boss bought a new iPad and put his old iPad 2 in the garbage. I happen to see it in there and asked if I could have it. He said sure. I did a factory reset and sold it for $150 I think. Sure had to deal with a few tire kickers but it sold after 2 days.

Unreal what people will throw out. Even if they don't want it...at the very least ask around, and give it away! Or, list it locally and make a few bucks...even if it's from a business, sell it and give the $ to charity if you have to!

I hate to see waste like that - good for you for snagging it. You really ****!

The company I used to work for changed their fastener supplier from Mechanics Choice to Bowman, the Bowman rep brought in all new cabinets. They were, except for the color, almost exactly identical.

You ****. Good grab! We're going to be getting "vending machines" from WW Grainger for our warehouse. I'm kind of hoping when it happens I might be able to grab something like what you got.

I do have to give my boss credit, if we need something for the shop as long as we can justify it we will usually get it. He just thought this rack was not worth keeping. I'm not usually the "In the right place" Just fell into this one...

My employer sold a building to be demolished. The deal with the buyer is they would take the building AS-IS including anything we didn't take. There was lots of stuff left behind that employees would have loved to have, but they didn't allow employees to take anything. The buyer took some of the stuff, but I am sure a lot of good stuff went to scrap yard or simply was demolished with the building. It was a shame.

Show us a picture of the one he replaced it with! I'd love to see one 10x that size!

The last place I worked, when they were going to build a new building they threw all kinds of this stuff in the metal dumpster. Employees were not allowed to take anything as that would be personal gain and that is not allowed. The boss actually had one of his yes men follow the truck to the scrap yard. And yet another reason I don't work there anymore.

Good job on the freebie.

I would say "you ****", but that would mean I do as well. I scored 3 or 4 of this type of cabinet when I had a part time job at Autozone and they were getting new versions.

I have sorted so many of my small parts into them (don't use them for nut and bolt hardware) and it has been great. Everything from banjo bolt washers to small light bulbs.

Great acquisition. Some times you just have to ask.

That is insane. Glad you're out of that mess.

The place my son works has been throwing out 18 volt Milwaukee Drills. They are the base version with carbon brushes. He has brought home 3 so far , all they needed was a set of 7 dollar brushes. Rather than fix them the shop manager has been replacing them with Dewalt 20 volt drills.

You done well. A while back, I was walking by the metal scrap dumpster here at work and a roto-bin was laying in it. I didn't want it, but I knew a co-worker that would, so him and I drug it out and now he has a nice addition to his garage. I'm not fond of roto-bins, but I have several of the drawer type like yours.
