My first Youtube video

I started a thread awhile back about posting a video and did not get any response. So I have been working through it on my own. This is my first recording and posting and I realize I have a long ways to go. This was removing a GM u-joint that was factory installed with resin.

Simple and straight to the point. Good first video. A couple of recommendations I'd make are turning down / off the radio when you are actually recording. If a song or even commercial comes on that is in YT's copyright enforcement system your video could be blocked for certain viewers, monetized for other people or even be taken down. Also you might help people trying to do the same thing if they can find it by changing the title to something relevant. "Removing GM U-Joint" or something like that.

Thanks, that was with a low cost camera on a tripod. Now I have to figure out how to edit , add sound, etc. Uploading seems to take a long time, but I might not be doing it right.

You can use Moviemaker (built into Windows) and add an introduction with the details on the task. Also you can add keywords and descriptions like firworks said.

How many Mb is the video and also what kind of internet do you have?

This is where I will have to catch up, I cannot answer either of those questions without research, I would say my internet is slow because it is a old package at the low end of the scale price wise. If I plan to do this more often what your telling me is upgrade my service.

Yes there are programs that can compress a video to make it easier to upload. The primary ones that nearly everyone uses is called "Handbrake":

You'd likely just have to search around on YT and there will be videos walking you through the steps to shrink your videos size down without hurting the quality.

Good job on your first video, as for all the tips, I'll say the same as "firworks" already said as it covert it all.

The title still show up as "DSCN3053" for me, which won't help others to find your video,but maybe it takes time to get updated.

You should also add description.

I believe the title as well as the thumbnail take a while to update. YouTube's content is stored distributed on different servers around the world and there's probably a synchronization that occurs every so many minutes where the updates become live everywhere.

I accidentally uploaded the wrong thumbnail for a video once and had to wait like a half hour for it to update to the correct one.

sorry we weren't there for you in the beginning. I film and upload from my IPhone. has an app built in for it. it sounds like you have a high def size and a slow internet. you can just let it go. you don't have to stand there with it.
like said put exactly what it is so someone that is changing the same ujoint in the same model year will find out from you that there is factory epoxy in it. I've looked up videos on several planned projects and saw the trouble others have had and it really helps.
my only other gripe is safety. really should have gloves and dark goggles with acetylene. remember you are teaching and must lead by example. at some point someone is going to watch that and repeat it for the first time on their own torch. overall I think its great for your first try.

I have to disagree on the gloves and dark glasses for just heating a part, if he were cutting that would be different.

Yes our vids are a teaching resource but they are also real world and not some canned content from a production company.

Everyone needs to decide what their level of personal safety is and live or die accordingly.
