Watched the whole series as they came out, Tom is a true craftsman.

Just a note he decided not to put it in Keith Fenner's what's in your box giveaway, Instead he is going to be auctioning it off with the proceeds going to a as yet to be determined school machining program. So if you have deep enough pockets you could have it on your bench. (personally if I got it, it would go on a shelf to be admired not used.

I ve been watching Tom for about as long as Keith and Adam.

When he first launched that project I was like cool maybe I'll build one to his plans. As the series went on I was like eff that lol.

It was a very neat project, but I think it was kinda crappy of him to start out by doing it for the box giveaway, then at the end turning around to auction it off. Especially with all the parts others put into it. Lost some respect for him there. Will be interesting to see what it sells for.

If he made that choice with out contacting Fenner, I doubt he would have let it slide and we would have heard about it in one of his videos. I agree, don't pledge it to one place, then sell it off. Anybody know where the auction is being hosted? Not gonna bid, but I'd like to see the hammer price.

I'm up to episode 21, man that's a lot of time with a file. Keith

Z,

All of the proceeds are going to a vocational school to them help buy tools. He actually felt that all of the work people put into it should go towards a better cause. Give the guy some credit.

I don't mind the fact that he is doing something different with it than he originally stated

It is still going for a good cause.

This was a fascinating project to watch. A lot more work was involved in making the vise that I would have ever imagined, especially all the hand filing and shaping.

I jumped in early on this as I was looking for a machining project at the time of Tom's first post. Before the second video came out I bought all the steel and downloaded the plans. So every week I would watch the video and work on the part. I'm glad I started this way because if I watched em all first I would have chickened out :) Machining is a newer hobby for me and this was my largest project, but now its almost done, totally worth it.

Cheers
Mike

Airbalancer, great work. I followed Tom on this as well. I am experienced enough that I knew when he got started and explained how he was going to do it how much work it would be, so I never even thought about doing one myself. It is one of those projects that you will be proud of forever and when you look back on it, will probably not want to do it again.

Very impressive and that guy has a ton of tooling! There were so many oddball little things used in these videos that its hard to believe someone has all that laying around there personal shop. None the less very educational videos and learned a few new tricks along the way to!

Also man does he love to file! LOL

I also bought the materials when the series started but I haven't started my vise yet. It's on my list of projects but I have a couple that need to be finished before I can get this one started. It's great to see someone else dive in and make so much progress.

Airbalancer, you have done a fabulous job on yours, you should be very proud.

There is a guy selling them on Ebay with sheetmetal type vise grips attached. Looks like he has a bunch of em. I polished it with a die grinder with a scotchbrite wheel and then on the buffer.

I didn't know this thread existed. I actually just finished watching this build two nights ago after stumbling across it on YouTube. I binge watched the whole series in like 3 days, lol. They make me want a mill a lathe even more now. Tom is man that loves his craft, and has the skills to back it up. Very impressive work.

Also impressive job Airbalancer! It looks just as good as Tom's!

Tom L. says that he has 100 hrs into his Baby Bullet build. I have more than 100 hrs.and my final is not as beautiful as Toms nor as elegant as Airbalancers. But I am proud of my work and I accomplished my goal, to learn by experience. Which leads me to believe that the money generated from a sale would be more appreciated by Keith Fenner' s TBGA program.

That is just some awesome craftsmanship.---But after following the progression and the invested time and the skill set to bring it to fruition, I'll just have to make me one with a $300.00 bid on EBay.

Good luck finding one for only $300. The prices have gone up since the start of that video series. (I know as I check very often hoping for a deal)
