I went to buy a few sections of pallet racking today that I found on Craigslist. My dad decided he wanted a couple sections too. Came home with this trailer load and have to go back for the other half of the beams and plywood decking tomorrow.

Now to get some space cleared out to get some set up.

I see a bunch of out of state ads on CL for pallet racks, none local or close that don't involve four hours and a trailer.
I have been watching for it regularly. This was at a local chain lumber yard about 40 miles away. They are renovating some of their yard and posted this morning. About half to a third of the price I normally see it.

I use load beams from pallet racks as fence posts.

I cut the fittings from the ends with my chop saw and weld on tabs to bolt 2X4 pressure treated rails.

As a kid in high school I worked at a home improvement store called Handy Andy. I put that stuff together constantly and had to move it all around. If my hands never rest on that stuff again I will die a happy man. LOL

It's strong for sure, but I can't stand it!

I remember my dad taking me to Handy Andy!

Ej- what's the depth of the racking? I believe I need less than 24in, as I tend to hide the stuf that's on them and forget I ever had it:lol_hitti

I think my answer is hanging items from the wall, especially with 14ft of wall height..

they are 36 and 42 inches deep. I agree that they are not ideal depth for just putting small shop stuff on. These will mostly be used for large items. I have a tractor with pallet forks that i will use for lifting full pallets on them. They will also be used for lumber.

I love my pallet racking shelves! My work bench is hidden behind my truck in the pic. The tractor in the foreground gets the pallet forks attached with the flip of 2 levers, like a Bobcat. Makes it easy to get heavy stuff up and down. I got the bright idea of painting the beams red, because my 4 post lift, my car storage rack, truck and tractor are all red. I ordered the paint, and when the dude told me what I owed for it, I was like :scared: ! LOL

Good score, I have a bunch in my other big shed that I use to store everything that was either outside or in the shop. I set one end up so that I can have long lumber spanned across two set at right angles to the wall. In my shop, I just recently did 4 sections, cleaned and painted with a foam roller that is set up all along one wall. I made the first shelf beams high enough to have a bench, welders and cabinets under it. Only issue I see is getting stuff off the top when you don't have a forklift. Still very nice to clear the floor of boxes and other stuff.

That's a serious load of pallet racking, well two loads actually. You're going to have to buy more stuff to take up all the shelving space.
