I recently bought an old vise on a whim. it looks EXACTLY like a Record Vise, the old style made in England....

but its a name that really does not show up anywhere....

it looks like BRON or ERON...more than likely it is ERON....

does anyone have any info on them?

really my only questions are

1. how high quality are they?
2. are they identical to Record vises? they look like carbon copies...
3. can I find some new bolts to hold the jaws in place?

Thanks a bunch!

I'll add some pictures later.

yes I saw that thread several times....I'm just....stunned that feedback on Eron vises is so scarce even when doing google searches....im stunned that the "Erontools" site seems to be dead...its all just stunning to me.

Google searches might not return results about what members here might have had their hands into in the recent past, so I'm not going to be afraid to bring the subject up once again; maybe people here have just acquired one and know something about it, or maybe they haven't thought to do google searches and read that old thread you mentioned and don't realize that their vise might have a history or they might have some first hand experience I'm interested in hearing about.

That thread you linked is one I have visited several times in the past week, so I'm wondering if any other information or updates on the vises, or recent discussions elsewhere in more recent memory exist somewhere that might not be uncovered so readily in a google search.

some of the things I REALLY hope to figure out is exactly how close a replica these Vises are to Record English made....

and I really want to buy a new set of Jaw bolts that will match the thread....

Got this dirty old 5 inch ****** for $50.00 Canadian about a month ago. I could not resist :)

Pictures Incoming :p

thats excellent...I was hunting around for that name "Nabeya" earlier today. I found a few REAL close matches here....im almost at the point of sending off a butchered email in japanese to see what happens....

luckily the threads in the body of the vise seem fine, but the bolt threads are some of the bolts are just smushed into nothingness....

There's supposed to be a cotterpin holding the washer next to the spring in place. It's a royal pain in the *** without squeezing the spring.. so what ya do is remove the spring, compress it in a vise (your other vise) & hold it with a piece of safety wire, remove it from the vise, turn it 180deg & put another twist of safety wire opposite the first.
Assemble all the gubbins, insert cotterpin & then snip the safety wire with dykes to release the spring.

Also: To get it part you need to knock the pin out holding the the nut in place, otherwise the end of the slide hits the nut & prevents it coming apart.

& yeah, it's pretty much a Record clone.

That looks like a Canadian made RAE.

yea it almost seems that the precise shape of the vise was created and shipped all over the world and re-branded...

Paramo is nother off shoot from england that is often identical to Record vises, and are held in (as far as I know...) the same high regard

Without going and reading all the links, in my previous reading about Record and their look alikes, I came across a story from WWII that discussed war time vise production in England and how Records design was shared among three companies, in three different parts of the country, in order to meet the country's war time need and provide some protection against German bombing. I don't remember the exact details except to say that after the war, production continued and Record lost control of the design or partnered with the other firms or something. I'll see if I can find the article. I'm sure I saved it somewhere.
