I have a 60x40x12 morton building that is skinned a on the inside. The compressor is in the corner so Im building a hut around it to cut down the noise and give me storage above. The plan was to lag a header to tie in the ceiling joists but before I poke any more holes in the skin I wanted to check and see if there is a standard distance between the posts.

Thanks,

Eric

There are many standards used for pole buildings. They vary by area and expected snow and wind loads. I would suggest that you look in the attic or probe around the outside to find the poles.

Morton will build with different distances between the posts/joists. Hopefully, you have access to the attic space, it should be easy to identify/measure the distance between the joists from the attic space.

FWIW, the centerline distance between the joists on my Morton building are 8'. But this was just a choice that Morton offered...

I have 6 trusses and 6 posts on each side (maybe 7 with end wall) on a 40x60

call morton they will have records. It depends on what the building was origionally intended for (Ag or shop) and wall height.

The inside skin is screwed only to the posts if its the metal skin so you should be able to see where the screws are , at least thats how my morton building is

My Morton is 54X90. 7.5 foot centers. End distance to the first post can be different also. Best bet is Call Morton.
