Got the front porch poured today and the back porch and garage will be poured tomorrow. Don't be afraid to comment (good/bad) or ask questions. I don't bite ;) Here are some pictures from today...

The crew also finished up today on the shop until after the floors are poured. I need to get some gutters and downspouts on the shop soon to keep the dirt off the side of the building. Here are some updated pictures of the shop as well. Again don't be afraid to comment!

My Kubota Mini and scissor lift parked inside. The ceilings will be 13' after the floor is poured.

Coming along nicely! That shop/barn is going to have endless possibilities once completed.

Just curious... when you started this thread, you mentioned about just building the shop with the temporary apartment, and building the home later on. Was it just a change of heart, and decided to give her a go, and construct both at once? That's going to be a very beautiful home once completed, and must of taken some quick thinking to design a solid floor plan.

As always, thanks for sharing.

Impressive progress, has your contractor given you an anticipated move in date or are you just "when its done its done" ?

Nice build, sub'd.

The garage doors look narrow - it must be an optical illusion with the height, as you said they were 10x9 on the house.

Any plans for a rear deck?

Thank you, basically the short version is I was able to do something i didnt think i would be able to do when it came to building permits. They treat Ag structures and residential structures very differently here in delaware. I thought i was going to have to build the shop as an Ag structure and then parcel off the land to build the house. It didnt end up being that way after i met with the county. And it just happend to work out that the house and pole barn were built at the same time. The foundation for the house was ready and waiting to find a framer for almost 2 months. I was going to live over the pole barn until the house was finished and sell my old house at the same time but it didnt make sense financially and i will probably hold off on finishing the room above the pole barn until a later date.

Wow, it's been a while since I last checked in and you've really come a looooong way. Congrats, it's turning out very impressive!.
Thank you! Its turning out even better then I had imagined. I feel very fortunate to be able to do a project like this. Check back often, lots of thing will be going on in the next few months.

Impressive progress, has your contractor given you an anticipated move in date or are you just "when its done its done" ?
Thanks, Im the general contractor, so when I get it done Ill move in. But things have been moving along pretty good. Im thinking by the end of summer I might be moved into the house. The shop, exterior of the house, and Yard should be finished by the end of Spring.

Nice build, sub'd.

The garage doors look narrow - it must be an optical illusion with the height, as you said they were 10x9 on the house.

Thanks, the doors on the shop are 10x10 the doors on the house are 9x9. The may appear taller becasue the floor has not been poured in these pictures. They were pouring the house floor this morning when i was there.

The plan calls for a 12x12' rear deck between the screened in porch and the rear sliding door behind the breakfast table. Im already thinking about expanding it to 12x18. It will be less then 2' tall from finished grade, so it wont require a railing. I plan on doing a brick paver patio of some sort as well.

Thank you! It will fill up fast once i move in. Im going to do two floor drains. One 1/3 from the front wall and one 1/3 from the back wall. Centered in the room.

Im going to do a 4 post extra long/tall lift on the right side in the back (same one i have in my other shop) and i already have a two post lift to go on the right/center along the back wall.

I priced out in floor heat but to me its not worth it. My shop now stay 50-55 all winter long with hardly any heat. I spent $16 last month and part of that is from the generator running once a week to exercise. And my current shop is 60x104 with 16' ceilings. I tell everyone this, use closed cell spray foam on your building it will make a world of difference.

A 3 ton heat pump with propane backup is all i will need in the shop. It doest get nearly as cold in Delaware as it does in Minnesota. When i finish the space above the shop ill use a mini split.

Made some progress on the shop floor. Installed my floor drain, put 1.25" conduit on every corner for future use if needed. Also set my electric panel and ran 3 - 1.25" conduits over to the house. One for electric, one for cable, and a spare. Got everything graded out and the holes dug where the two post lift is going to go. There will be a 4 post lift beside it on the right. The area under the lean to is framed up and ready for concrete. Might have floors by the end of the week! Im excited because i really want to get the driveway graded out and get stone all the way up to the house.

I totally missed this pic but found it in the Show off your lifts thread and didn't want to go off topic there but I love your Chevy pickup (1955 3100 Apache?) If you've got more pics of that gem don't hesitate to post!
House and shop are coming along great too.

Its a 1956 3100. They didnt start calling the 1/2 tons Apache until 1958. It was done by a local guy about 15 years ago. I've had the truck since 2010. Its lowered with a 76 firebird front end. 454 Chevy Crate Motor, Trubo 400, Vintage A/C, Leather Interior, etc. I plan on redoing the truck in the next few years. Id like to put it on a modern chassis with air ride and a fuel injected motor. Im not really a fan of the pearl white and the paint is getting tired so id like to strip and repaint the whole truck and probably Mini Tub it at the same time with some new wheels and tires.

These pictures are older. I need to take some more recent pictures.

Sorry, my bad and thanks for clearing that up ;) always thought they started to name them Apache from this model up. She's a beauty though! and I love your plans. A LS engine would fit nicely. I think it looks classy in white, pearl may be overdoing it a bit, but white suits it well. Thanks for the pics!

Yea I'm thinking an LS7 or maybe an LSX with a power adder. I wouldn't just order a crate motor. I would spec something out and build it myself.

Im a fan of black. But a nice GM white with black weld wheels would look awesome tubbed out. The interior is two tone charcoal and light gray. So it might have to be changed depending on color choice. I actually love the blue on my SRT8. Its called Steel Blue Metallic. So thats a possibility... I was looking for a black jeep when i bought mine and i have since fallen in love with the color. Its very rare.

Update:

Finally got some good news on the shop floor! The weather has been crappy the last 1.5 weeks. Cold/Rainy/Windy. Should be pouring the floor slab on Thursday and the porch, shop aprons, and house aprons on friday. Then i can get the driveway graded out and get stone up to the house.

Mason is starting wed/thursday on the front steps and porch columns. Still have to get my stone picked out.

The Siding guy is starting on Monday. Still need to get the band board on for the back deck and wrap the front 2 story gable in ice/snow shield.

Also the plumbers are roughing in, The hvac is done for now on the second floor. First floor will come after drywall. And I've been roughing in the electric with another electrician at night and on the weekends.

After the house is roughed in, next will be electric/cable in the shop and then i can get the insulation done and the metal up. So much to do so little time...

Made some progress on the house and shop this week. Poured the apron on the garage and had the front columns and steps laid yesterday. Also started framing the walls in the basement and got the band board on for the deck. The siding/soffit/fascia will start going on monday. The rough in on the hvac is done for now, the plumbing and electric is still on going.

The shop is finally starting to feel like a shop. Got the floor ready and poured this week as well as the porch and aprons. I need to get some gutters and garage doors on the building now and finish up the metal work outside. We used MasterKure CC 180WB Sealer on the floors. Its the same thing as Kure-N-Seal. It will hold me off for a while until i decided what I'm going to do with the floors inside. The Interior Shop floor is 4,000 lb mix with pea gravel 4.5-5" Thick (50 Yards). We pumped it in using a trailer mounted pump. Welded wire mesh in the floor. The Aprons are 3,500 lb mix. 13 Yds between the house and shop aprons and the covered porch. Floor in the shop was saw cut. I will later fill the cuts with self leveling caulk.

Here are some pics...

Man that's going to be a nice setup. Really liking both. The "point" on the shop roof has grown on me.. looks good now that the shop is more complete.

Consider me officially jealous!

A few pictures from tonight when i stopped by to check on things... took a few pictures of my truck while i was out there. Should be starting on siding tomorrow and finishing the basement wall framing. I'm hoping to have the electric 98% complete after this week.

Looks real good. Plan on connecting concrete between the pole barn and house garage or doing gravel?
It will be stone for a while and then blacktop before i move in. Just have to get it graded out and get some fabric down. Probably need another 6 loads of stone delieved.
