An alternative to this? (sure shot sprayer)

Is there an alternative to this? Something you can fill up with the air hose, but doesn't cost so much. I'm sure the only reason that one is expensive is because of the logo on it. So are there any others?

I'm sure just like ladders a lot of money from profits goes to pay for manufacturers liability. Find a small Freon tank and put a stem and trigger valve in it. Even one of those dinky welding bottles wouldn't be too heavy.

TP Tools sells Sure Shot and a cheaper knock-off called Vapor Spot Sprayer. I have seen the both sold at other places as well. Be aware that there are several versions of Sure Shot made with different components for different fluids and at different prices.

Sure shot is the best but, there are cheaper versions made by Titan and others. The sure shot is completely rebuildable. The money you save from not buying aerosol cans of brake clean will offset the price of a sure shot.

I hate Sure Shot sprayers because they eventually get broken in one way or another. Leaking out of the bottom is common. It's just a pain to need to use a wrench to unscrew the cap to fill it and to pressurize it with air. To change spray pattern you have to change the tip.


I use hand pump sprayers for soapy water to install tint and tires, so I figured there must be one that is solvent safe.

I bought this one online. I think it was $35 shipped. The whole top screws off, it's easy to fill, a few quick pumps re-pressurizes it without needing to grab the air hose and put a chuck in it, you adjust the nozzle to the desired spray pattern. It holds up better to dropping it than a Sure Shot does.

It has worked well other than the internal valve seems to have developed a slight leak. If left sitting pressurized it will gradually leak all the solvent out of the nozzle. I just use it for what I'm doing and unscrew the top to let the pressure out. It's a slight inconvenience but still better than a sure shot. Idk if I just got a slightly defective one or if another brand would hold up better. All in all I'm happy with it.

What country are you in? I can't find that one on any US sites.


As far as I can tell, the ones designed for solvent have viton seals. Googling "viton hand pump sprayer" brings up a lot or results.

Use a few of the cheap Menards ones and perfectly happy with them.
Got a couple Sure Shot ones too...get along well with them, but I can see the OP's points.

Thanks for the replies all. This thread helped me decide to stick with the hand pump ones.

A related question: Where did you guys get the labels to stick on them? Did they just come with the 5 gallon jugs? I bought two different hand pump ones on ebay, and they both have a big section of the bottle that says "Apply label here" or something to that effect.

Wurth sprayers are the norm in almost every garage in the country here. They're simple and reliable.

I've had mixed success with "cheaper" sprayers and solvents... the last one I used all the solvent evaporated out in a day or two (didn't notice till I needed it). Inconvenience and waste of $ in solvent.
