Hi, just bought this vice from a carboot sale £25, just trying to find out a bit about it and what to do with the hole? On the top. The pipe vice is removable and it is in really good condition, I think it might be a pipe fitters vice but have only found one more picture of it on the net. Many thanks guys and girls

Newbie: that open screw Woden vice looks like it's a little nicer than the light duty vices of similar style, but not a heavy duty vice. the hole in the anvil is most likely for a Hardy type cutter that are on the US made versions of that vice.

also welcome to the forum and hope you stick around to share your knowledge and hope you learn a thing or two while you are here.

cheers

Its the Woden version of the Record 74 or 75 auto vices, designed for garage use. There was probably a replaceable anvil surface that used to fit in the hole that you haven't got. That's a good useful vice to have.

Very cool, thanks for sharing. I had never seen that particular Woden configuration before.

First of those Woden's which I've seen too. As Dutch says, it's the same style as the Record 74/75 design. The Record 74 has the same round anvil on it as that one too, if I recall correctly, so the 74 would be a good guide as to what's needed to make a replacement anvil portion for that Woden.

Fretters, thanks for that. I'm wondering wether this was made by record under the woden brand name or wether it pre dates the take over in the 60s, it would be cool to find out. Looking forward to using it when new man cave arrives ( shed) 😃
