Did some research and found out that EPOXY is not UV resistant, so that is why its turning yellow, some spotting where the window and the garage door windows are, but mostly because during the summer we keep the garage door open while the kids play outside, located in HOT SoCal, and the garage faces the sun,

Im thinking to recoat it again, because the product itself is good and tough,

Question is, how do i prevent it from turning yellow??:dunno: What say you

hard to see in the pics, but it shows the yellowing

This is the product i used

Degrease, degloss, solvent wipe and recoat with a pigmented urethane or Polyurea.

Im probably going to re coat the entire garage, once i do that, can you recommend a product to apply as a protective top coat?

im not familiar with urethane or polyurea :dunno: and can those products be applied on top of the glossy clear coat if i choose to do that as well?

I recommend that you read this to get an idea of the type of top coats you can use.

If you apply the EpoxyShield again, there is not a clear coat that you can apply that will stop the yellowing process. Polyurethane (urethane for short) and polyurea will slow down the process but not stop it.

If you apply a color coat of polyurethane or polyurea, then it will not yellow as they are U.V. resistant.

Ok, thanks for the link, so if i re coat with epoxy shield again, then do a top coat of polyurethane, it will not completely stop it, but will certainly help, got it,

2 questions for you

1, what do you mean by a color coat of polyurethane? i thought it was only clear or satin?

2. WHAT kind of polyurethane can i use as a top coat? will something like this work?

http://www.lowes.com/pd_662524-678-131030000_1z0uavg__?productId=999913909&pl=1

and im assuming for a regular 2 car garage i will need 1 gallon?

thanks for the replies btw, much appreciated.

No, that is for wood floors only. You aren't going to find polyurethane concrete coatings from a home improvement center. Many of the vendors here on the forum offer polyurethane in a variety of colors however.

OK thank you, will a color polyurethane still be gloss shiny?

Can anybody recommend a polyurethane top coat? links please.

150ron - how old is your Rustoleum coating? 5 months? 5 years? 10 years?

about 2 years, but the plan is to get another 2 1/2 car garage kit, re coat, then do a nice clear coat to protect it as much as possible.

Your current floor looks good - evenly spread flakes etc.....

FWIW - a friend used the same Rustoleum Epoxy Shield. He put down the tan (beige?). He likes the gray better, but his rap was the yellowing would be less noticeable on a tan surface. After eight years, he has some yellowing, but not real noticeable. His garage faces due west and is usually closed up tight (HOA requirement).

Hi,
The above is all correct, epoxies are not UV tolerant and will yellow if exposed to sun. The only real way to fix this is to coat with either our SPGX tinted gray or our Polyaspartic UltraFast coating tinted gray (both won't yellow), re-fleck it, and then re-clear coat it. Coating with epoxy you will end up with the same results over time with the yellowing.

Your existing floor will need to be lightly sanded or scuffed up, wiped down with denatured alcohol prior to recoating.

Before adding coats, make sure your current coat is well secured to the floor.

Thanks, im not really liking the tan, i like the current color, id like to stay with the gray. i had used this same exact kit before, but the garage had no windows and it was perfect.

old garage, no sun exposure, no issues.
