Long time lurker, first time posting. Have been wanting to build an RV garage/workshop/storage space for a while and am getting close to getting the project started. Have come up with a plan that I think will work well for our needs, however I don't have any experience designing something like this and wanted to get advice from others who have more experience.

Size is 42' wide, 46' deep, 16' interior walls, 14' high doors, and will have a 10' overhang (lean-too) from or near the roofline on one side which is not depicted on the drawing.

Will be used more as storage and man cave and some very light vehicle maintenance.

Open for any ideas or feedback you can come up with.......

We'll let you use the term "Man Cave" this once, since you didn't know better, but AHEM!

What's the big room to the right with just a small man door for?

Figured out how to change my location, but we're in South East Idaho. Ha! Looking back at what I typed in a hurry between things at work, will edit it, lol.

The 12x12 room is going to be set up as a hobby type room for both the wife and I. Everything from sewing to model building with a flat screen on the wall.

Some questions.

Have you checked all your zoning requirements, easements and such?

What kinds of uses will the mezzanine and storage truss be for?

Bill

Yes we are working with a builder who is very familiar with all the zoning/building requirements. I just finished having an easement vacated so we can put this as close to a property line as we want (property line between my two properties).

The mezzanine will be used to store some old tractor implements that I have restored or part way restored, along with some Jeep parts (axles, wheels, tires, etc) I have accumulated, along with a storage rack for various fluids and oils to do my light maintenance and tinkering on my Jeeps.

I envision the storage up in the trusses to be used for stuff we hardly ever use but that we can't quite let go of permanently (read wife's stuff).

Nice looking building! If space and budget permit, I'd recommend adding a few feet to the wall to the left of the garage doors. Right now, it looks like that's only 2' wide. Personally, I don't like having such a narrow space next to where I'm pulling vehicles inside. More space would allow for working space on the sides of vehicles and storage, or some workbenches. Obviously this would change a lot of other things, so it kind of boils down to your priorities and how you will be using the space. It's easy for me to spend your money!

Haha, thanks for the help! I am thinking I might go with a single 20' wide door in front and back so that we would have 5' on either side of the door for the space your talking about.
