Working on a 2002 Toyota Sequoia but this question applies to other cars with similar banjo fuel lines. I want to test the fuel pressure which requires a banjo style adapter which I have on order for my Lang fuel tester.

My question is when you use the banjo adapter with the stock fuel line, do you need to put in new fuel gasket/seals/washers? What about when you reinstall the line with out the tester adapter after you have completed testing. Do you need new seals then?

Is there sort of rule of thumb on when you replace those seals?

I don't know, but I'd have them on hand just in case you do need them. Nothing worse then having to run out and get more parts when you could have gotten them in the first order/trip. That's my "rule of thumb."

copper washers you can reuse for testing
I would use new ones at final assembly

I would replace them, I bought a set of assorted copper washers after I received a brake caliper and the washers weren't in there and had to spend more time and money going to the hardware store to get them. I try to stock up on misc things like that ( cotter pins, o rings, vacuum caps, etc etc) as much as I can to be ready for " surprises "

I keep them all in stock.
I would replace and toss in used pile.
Copper ones I believe get work hardened but I was told you can heat them and reuse them. But not checked validity to that.

I've reused copper washers on banjo fittings, over and over, and never had a leak. If they're not flat I run them on some fine sandpaper to smooth them out.

They should be replaced at final assembly but I have reused the same crush washers at least 10 times before and never had them leak.

Sometimes you have no choice... but to reuse.

Personally if your not prepared to do the job properly you should not be doing it. In particular if it involves fuel or brake systems.
It is not worth the chance or the liability.

Thanks for the input. Will probably pick a few up. Anyone know if they carry these at the parts store is this something only a dealer item? When I looked on advance and autozone sites I couldn't find them.

Again, sometimes you have no choice... Has nothing to do with being prepared or not. Sometimes they don't like to seal

Most NAPA stores keep a good stock of crush washers. My local store makes DOT. brake lines and has a test machine to pressure test the lines after installing the end fittings. I am sure they can test fuel lines also. One neat item I found at NAPA was a small copper concave washer that installs in a bubble flare fitting to seal the flare to the brake lines. I use them exclusively now when fabricating brake lines that use bubble flares.

Seems like most stores have brake parts but do they have fuel copper seals.
