I really started school too soon after chemo. My brain is fried,,,lol. For real though. I haven't even been out of chemo for a year. So hopefully I'll get better,,,lol.

I did ok in manual machining except for trying to learn trig.

I actually thought that I would do good in CNC because I know a little bit about computers. But man. Trying to remember all those codes and trying to write a program messed with my head. My brain just couldn't comprehend it. It wouldn't sink in.

They're saying I'm in remission and doing great. I know I'm getting fat again. So I'm taking the rest of the year off and heading across country on my Goldwing to see what I can see.

Since your grinder can use the other style of tool rest that go on the shaft, did you have to drill the holes in your wheel covers. Or where they all ready there.

If you drilled them, was there a dimple or anything.

You guys have any idea what size cords are on a 1/3hp.

I need a new cord on my 1936 Walker Turner drill press. It has a 1/3hp 6amp motor.

I have a cord from a Craftsman block grinder. It was a 1/3hp 4.5 amp. The only writing I see on it is "SJT" which mean extra heavy service. So I think it might work.

You guys think it will work.

It will be fine.

I use old computer cords all the time as cord replacements for any <= 1/2 HP. motors, get the heavier "server" cords if you can. the lighter ones are fine for <=1/3 HP

Even good to get a 25' extension cord if there cheap enough, and cut off the amount you need,
you have your plug and everything.
Buy another plug or two, and make a few more.
Often cheaper than buying the cord itself, by the foot, at a hardware or home center.

I like all of the cord ideas. I like to use rubberized ones instead of PVC coated cords just because they are easier to wind up in cold weather.

But I think I may not like my 3/4. It's too powerful,,,lol. I used it for the first time today.

I mainly use these things for cleaning rusty parts. I could wire wheel a bolt in my hand and if I got too close I'd get a little rub. No big deal. But I sure can't do that with this one. I feel like it will **** me in,,,lol.

And I really need a smoother wire wheel. You guys think I could get by with using a 6" wire wheel on this 7" grinder. What would be the negative effects other than a little smaller.

I have plans to use a nice 1/3-HP rtop m-397.1958x for those light duty, light touch jobs - small pieces, nuts, bolts, ....

I can't think of a reason not to use a 6" on your 3/4-HP.

Got this on the last day of an estate sale with 30 min to go before they packed up. This was covered in cob webs in the basement on a long forgotten workbench. Its missing the tool rests and I am thinking the attachment has to go. I grabbed it for a cool $10 but she said I had to unbolt it from the bench as she has nobody that can help. No problem there.

I'm right there with you. I tried wire wheeling some bolts and gotta say I was a little nervous. Maybe have to ditch the wire wheel and go back to my 6" for wire wheels. Just use the 7" for grinder wheels. That's why I have two...right??

A 6" wheel will reduce your surface feet per minute. That should make less aggressive.

I was cleaning some lawnmower parts this weekend on my 3/4hp with an 8" wire wheel. It grabbed the part out of my hand and, from the sound, I thought it broke the wheel guard. It didn't, but be careful on these things no matter the size. Safety glasses are good and face shields are better.

Harley: Dang that looks like it hurts. I was going to post pictures again of wires sticking out of my arms and legs because I was doing a little wire wheeling at my shop last summer when temps were in the 90's and I had shorts and a T shirt on. they didn't hurt much, but I seem to recall I haven't had a Tetnus shot in 40 years so I probably should get a shot or quit wire wheeling in shorts and short sleeves. I do have a couple nice pair of coveralls hanging next to the grinder, but GEESH it was 100+ inside the garage last summer.

i'm starting to hold parts with vise grips with platypus style lips on them and looking for a few of those little jeweler vises that will hold bolts or washers or whatever in them. especially if I put wire wheels on my Baldor buffer which is the plan. I've heard knifemakers wear steel toed shoes and chaps like the loggers use for their legs in case a buffer or belt grinder grabs a knife out of their hands and sends it flying.

VERT: it looks like you have the kind of labels you stick on instead of the metal ones that Pup made to rivet on. I know you probably already said where you bought them, but i'm having a SENIOR MOMENT and can't recall. in any case it looks great.

The stickers were die cut using a rounded corner option and to the dimensions I listed. It is then a matter of adjusting the label file on their website to make it fit best in their template.

Here are latest badges with two different models. First is a gold background one in a 3/4 HP model 397.19670



Second one is slightly larger at 2-5/8" x 4", 1/2 HP model 397.19591 with silver background.

Be careful running a fully, tightly guarded wire wheel or buff. Those are really better to be ran without any guarding or with a loose fitting half shield, that way the risk of pinch hazard is much less. If you think 3/4hp is scary....this powers my belt driven belt/disc/buff/wire wheel machine. Typically run 6 or 8" wire wheels.

Might slow it down for a while, but it would then burn the motor up.

I know I am late to he party, but I agree with ^^. I don't recall the technical reasons, but I recall reading reducing speed by lowering voltage will damage this style motor.
