Just finished the install of my Atlas 9K pound lift. All went well despite the instructions being extremely poorly written and the overall width being a full inch wider than stated in the documentation.

I built the shop with a stepped up 13 foot ceiling over the lift bay, so I wasn't worried about height but I knew my width was going to be close but figured the specs were accurate.

Wiring took some metering and testing of the contactor because everything stated in the guide was off by 1 terminal. I did add a disconnect at the controls for emergency use just to be safe.

Lifted my F150 to test it out and all went well.

Looks really nice. I have put together a few things where the directions were very poorly written and it is no fun at all. I think maybe the directions were written by someone who does not speak English as their first language.

It was definitely a very loose translation from Chinese to English...

I'm starting the install on my Atlas 4 post today. I've read the instructions about 3 times. Seems the electrical instructions have left a little to be desired.

Looks great!

What is the distance approx. from the door to the center line of the lift?
Curious as I am currently doing a floor plan for my shop build.
Thank-you

The disconnect near the controls was a very wise decision. I picked up a used Rotary got it wired up and it worked perfect testing it going up and down as it should. I kid you not the first time I pulled my car in between the lift positioned the arms and planned to load it, check placement then lift *** up all the way, I pressed the button released it a second later and the lift kept going up as the switch jammed. Luckily I was familiar with my lift so I quickly flipped the disconnect switch and it stopped.

Im surprised that your unit didnt come with one from the factory as it seems like a no brainer to me. But luckily you had enough common sense to think about that and add one in a convenient location as running to flip the breaker may be too little too late.

Hope you enjoy your new lift; they certainly are a game changer! I just wish I had more time to actually use mine but Im still getting the garage to become a usable space...

Marcm157, please show some pictures of the disconnect. I'm doing my Atlas right now and would like to see that.

Thanks.

That's exactly why I wired the disconnect at my controls. My breaker panel is across my garage and I would never get to it before disaster struck. I tested the limit switch countless times but I still felt better with a physical disconnect right there.

Marcm - Is that the Atlas Model 9KOH? A neighbor has one and likes it quite a bit. If that's the same model you have, I found they have two height adjustments, 11'10" and 11'6". Built our house about two years ago and definitely intend on adding a two post lift but the garage ceiling height came out to 11'6" and while we roughly measured my neighbors lift height, I didn't go up on a ladder to see what the height really is and to see if I could just 'squeeze' it in to my garage.

Well, they both serve a different purpose. The limit switch will serve you no good if say you improperly position the arms then the switch jams and starts lifting up and rips through your floorpan or topples over your car.

Plus the limit switch is more like a button vs a switch so if you push up that bar the pressure on the switch is released and it opens the circuit. But how would you keep it open? Works fine if the car is high enough to hold up up but not good for a momentary oh s**t moment where you need to keep the power off.

Im not sure if that's what you even meant by referencing the top switch but I guess what Im getting at is that a limit switch is a nice feature if youre not being careful, i.e they're moreso in an instance of user error vs a kill switch which is beneficial for a mechanical failure like what happened to me.

Either way now you have both! Enjoy your lift and Im sure you'll meet some new friends once they hear you have a lift. It's funny since I put my lift in my car has been only it a couple times yet family and friend's vehicles seem to be drawn right over to it :)
