You got a great deal. I would have to think your neighbor knew the value of those tools, which is way more than 2k. My guess would be he was making a generous gesture towards you.

Hes been helping me in my shop with some of my projects so i agree with you, he wanted someone who would use and take care of these tools rather then sell or pawn them

I don't care what OP paid and I don't care how many tools OP already had before this deal came around. I am very happy that He found a deal that makes sense to him and closed it.

As for me I would have JUMPED on that deal at twice the price!

So, Mr Motofool33, Please accept my most sincere You ****!!

So today I tried to put just the sockets into my kra top drawer and that's a no-go, using the mechanics time savers or the Lowe's socket holders none of them allow the drawer to close.
Definitely going to have to clean out a deeper drawer in Mt Matco box to fit these sockets.

Sockets barely fit in the drawer, this is only the snap on stuff.

Damn, nice score. Those tools are probably at least what $15,000 off the truck?

Kinda strange that a retired mechanic would part with all his tools? I guess he plans on fixing nothing anymore. True retirement. :)

15k would not have even covered the sockets, he has my craftsman set and blue point wrench sets for basic wrenching, and can come use mine any time.

I would say the average price of a socket set off the tool truck with no discounts is 170-250 dollars and way more once you start adding sockets over 3/4" or 19mm.

Either way I think you got a good haul of tools!

Very nice. Congrats.

This thread reminds me of the time a guy came on an Oldsmobile forum and wanted to know what a 1970 Rallye 350 was worth. The old curmudgens on there were spouting off about its just a Cutlass painted yellow, $1500, blah, blah. Keep in mind the ram air hoods on them pull $1500 or more all day long.

I said anything under $3500 was a crime. He got $5500.....
