Lighting a 20x20

So I am looking at adding new fixtures to a 20x20 space. I was thinking adding 8' long t8 fixtures. basically 4 on each half of the garage, every 2 trusses.

Would this be overkill?

Maybe start with half and see where it gets you. It all really depends though. Do they have any type of reflection shade? Just basic strips?

I've considered those 4ft leds as well. Would like to know what everyone is using for 4 or 8ft led lighting.....

I have five fixtures four foot long with 'daylight' bulbs. It's plenty of light for wood working and fixing cars. At night with my garage door open, it is the brightest thing in the neighborhood.

Start with 4 or 5 fixtures and see if that is sufficient. You can add more later if you plan the electrical layout well.

I recommend getting 4 foot led strips in the 3000-4000 lumen range. I have used those 8ft fluorescent strips in the past and there just ok.

meanwhile I have read other threads saying LED fixtures do not have the output of fluorescent??

My plan is start at the front and go every 2 trusses or so....basically a light every 4'. 4 fixtures would give me a light for each 10x10 space. My trusses run parallel to the garage door, so that will be the orientation of the lights as I want them flush or nearly so with the bottom of the trusses.

In my opinion the Sam's club 4 foot led's are nice. I am very happy with them in my garage.

I am in the lighting industry and I have spent some years designing lighting products and leds are hands down better. Fluorescent lamps are higher lumens but the lamps are round and light goes everywhere. In some applications with less than half the wattage and lumens I am able to deliver more light with leds as board and chip on board based technologies are direct sources meaning the light is all brought straight down. Have a look at the fixture in this link its what I use when lighting an all purpose garage. If you have any questions let me know.

So with a 20x20 garage with white walls and the linked light I have, how many would you suggest?

With that lowes fixture you linked mounted at 10ft you would need 9 fixtures total which would yield roughly 50 footcandles which is a solid level of light intensity. Lowes doesn't have lighting calculation files so my measurement is not to the T.
