I bought a compressor pump from harber freight. It seems to pump all right but between 75-135 psi blows oil out of compressor vent.I have run it it quite a bit and it still blows oil. I have filled sight glass to the center like it says. could it be the rings have not seated yet.I had harber freight replace pump but new one still blows oil.I dont think this is normal but I dont know what to do.Give me some help thanks proge

No expert but is there a possible that its getting over spun? Like not running in the proper rpm range? It also could be due to it being a cheap pump.

When I purchased my compressor a few years ago, there were specific instructions about running the compressor with no load (tank completely vented) for something like 20 minutes. I would expect your rings have not sealed yet. Did the compressor have a break in recommendation?

I have a two HP harbor freight for a couple of years now and I can't say that I've had any trouble with it. Maybe it still needs the rings seated or maybe was just a bad one. I never did anything special with mine when I started it, but maybe I got lucky.

I looked at the HF. I ended up going with a US Made Lowe's Kobalt. Just installed it. Runs well. Quiet. Quality seems better than the HF, though the HF had a higher rated CFM.

You might consider returning the HF. It is with hit or miss with their stuff.

The pump for that Kobalt most certainly ain't made here in the states...Compressor might be assembled and put in a box stateside, so that they can get away with slapping an American flag, "Made in USA!" decal on that puppy.

Other than Curtis and Quincy, I don't think there are any manufacturers stateside manufacturing reciprocating compressor pumps (in the sub 10HP range). I could be wrong.

I have the 3 hp pump. Did the same thing. Then I found my check valve on the tank was bad. Fixed that, no more blowing oil.

Do make sure you did NOT over fill it. Overfilled they spray oil.

Proge - give us some more details. What Horsepower and what RPM is your motor? What is the diameter of the pump flywheel, and the diameter of the motor pulley? Did the pump come pre-filled with compressor oil? If not, what oil did you fill it with?
