I found a baldor sander 2048-151D for $300, but it's missing some belt guards. Is it worth it?

I think that's the 2'' xv 48'' with the 1 1/2 HP motor. If it sounds good $300 is free. NEW around $1300.00 ! YES $1,300.00 !!!!

I have a burr king 760 and my guard has not been down for about 2 years. I change belts often and besides, mine is clamped to my work bench and i have storage right next to it making it almost impossible to clear out the right side do i can lift the guard up so its up perminently

The picture shows that it's the 3-phase version, just FYI. These are nice machines to put a VFD on (but you DO need a nema 4x one around grinding dust, so figure on $300-400 all in), or you could always switch out the motor for much less...I think they're a common 56c frame, but don't quote me.

I would be very surprised if the guards were not still available for purchase. I have a pair of Burr King 760's... I'm very, very concerned about shop safety, but I sometimes prefer using my 760 with the old style (read: very minimal) guarding since there's not much to get in the way, vibrate and make noise, etc.

Off hand, I think the motor is bigger than 56 frame, but more significant is that it has a special threaded shaft that mounts the drive wheel. It would not be practical to swap the motor---I put a VFD on mine and it works great, especially the braking function.
