Advice on older Lincoln 2 Ton jack

I bought this Lincoln jack from a guy a few weekends back and wanted some advice on what to do with it. He bought it new many years back (not sure how old it actually is). He said he hasn't used it in a few years, but it seems to be in good condition and works well. Seems to be missing a spring? It won't retract on its own. The arm has to be manually pressed back down.

I'm just wondering if I should have the fluid and seals changed due to it's age or should I just keep using it as is?
Any advice or info on this particular jack would be helpful. Thx

Hard to retract usually means that the heel plate is swelled and binding in the pressure tube. A new one is in the kit. You are lucky that you have the hex shape gland nut, much easier to deal with. Takes a lot of force to loosen. Metal to metal seal for the tank.
Yes you are missing a retract spring. We have them at work new or used. Easy jack to rebuild.

It is suppose to have two springs on the bottom where you only have one and changing oil never hurts.

Would any like size spring do? Noticed some at the local Ace the other day. Or does it need to be a special "jack" spring?
I'm assuming a hardware store would also have the right type of oil?

Yes, no, and maybe.

A spring is a spring.

Depends on the hardware store, might have better luck at the auto parts store.
