That thing's huge - looks like an AC-powered battery. Why would one use that instead of a smaller, lighter, more powerful AC tool?

For those prices you can buy a good AC powered whatever.

Two problems:

1. The pricing is insane.

2. I am thinking that the guts should be on the opposite end, lowering the weight of the tool by just having the connector at the tool end. Then again, the tools are designed for the battery weight there... so maybe not?

I can see these coming in handy in some situations, definitely, but it should be a $40 item not a $240 item.

My guess would be that you would need a much larger cable to carry the amperage at 18v instead of 120.

I would buy one for my v28 if they made a Milwaukee version. I also have a defective battery that can be used to make one... Just need the guts..... But like you guys, I want the large brick on the cord end and the battery to be hollow to save weight.

Dewalt had one for their 24v tools. I've seen a few of their old sawzalls for sale with it. Theirs even had a cooling fan..

You have to keep in mind, some greenlee cordless stuff is well over $1000 for things like crimpers or cable cutters.. for some, it's a justifiable expense. If you have 12 cordless tools, now all of them can be corded too..things like saws, grinders, lights - it can help..

The Ridgid I think is really marketed for their plumbing crimpers.. not a cheap tool either

Some of the greenlee tools approach the $2000 mark for cordless..

Both of those will only work for tools that do not require much amperage

Both are listed as putting out less than 4 amps... not much
see this thread

a B&D drill was drawing over 7 amps... better to keep multiple charged battery's.

Seen bigger hammer drills and sawzalls for sale with these.. I'd buy one for my Milwaukee stuff if they ever made it.. Turn 10 or 12 cordless m18 tools into a corded version with just one purchase.. Flexibility is a good thing.. Considering a battery can cost $140, it can be a good item for some people..

That is why I want one for my m28, as the batteries are 135+ and the tools are as powerful as a corded in my opinion. It would be nice to know they will still work with one of these with they finally stop making the m28 batteries.
