I am in the need of an oil furnace for my house. I am looking at used ones because I use a pellet stove as main heat and oil for back up. All my other homes and this one have had Beckett burners. I have seen there is a Riello burn as well now. Anyone got any pros and con with the Riello burners?

Either are very good burners,we prefer Beckett over Riello in our business, mostly due to the fact that in our area most oil users have Becketts easing our stock levels in the service vans..

How long before someone tells you that you need to switch to natural gas?

Cant get gas where I am. Only other option is propane. I just replaced my oil tank to keep insurance company happy. Now I need a furnace. I paid $600 for a 6 month old double wall tank. If I can get a good used furnace for about that I will be ok. Had a quote of $6000 to switch to propane.

I know exactly how you feel as I went through the same thing with my ins. company when we bought a couple summers ago. Here in NS, no natural gas available. The folks on here cannot fathom not having easy NG access.

We have an Olsen oil furnace in our basement. In the 15 years, the only issue we had was replacing bearings in the burner motor after getting some water during a flood. I'd have no issue buying another Olsen.

Riello's are excellent burners, but as noted, Beckett rules the roost in the US. I would not hesitate to own a Riello but I'd have a stock of re-build parts on hand. They have had a number of model changes over the years and as noted, parts availability and getting the correct part in a no-heat is problematic. A trained tech with a good combustion analyzer is a must for proper set-up.
