Awwww man, Just run all hydraulic line ! Good enough for a dozer, good enough for me !! Ha ha ha ! Copper pipe there shouldnt be a problem. I know a lot of the VIP/euro guys run stainless lines for everything. Bent up all crazy but clean. So soft copper should be find everywhere else.

The comments I got back were very positive. I have both of these colors in the shop right now. I just need to finish up the body work and shoot it.

Yes, really like this color combo, BUT....(there's ALWAYS a but, isn't there?!). The very first lowered dually crew cab with Alcoas I ever saw was 60's Chevy Marina blue & heavy cream two tone like your example and it has stuck with me ever since.
It's gonna look GREAT no matter what you choose because well, you're you and you've already shown us what you will do...perfection. Kudos man, kudos!

We started a weekly drive-in group on Facebook, and each week we go to a different Drive-in in and around our area. Tonight was fun at an old time drive-in in Lubbock called Miss Ann's. We even had Dustin from Gas Monkey Garage come hang out with us. He brought out a new ride he has been working on, the white truck you see here.
Great fun and the Dually was a blast. Love the looks it gets from "normal people". The husbands want to come look at it, but their wives are like no! Too funny!

It's looking great!!! I get the whole "normal people" deal with mine too even though it's no where near as low as yours. And of course there is always that one guy that wants to come and beat me over the head for ruining a perfectly good dually.

What really gets me is the guys in a mini van or your every day SUV with his nads having been removed and placed in his wife's purse looking down his nose at me. As if he is so much better than I am. In actuality I feel bad for them. Because how much fun is it really just watching TV and hoping your life is as good as the beer commercial...
My favorite thing happened the other day at the drive-in outing above. We were all just sitting around and talking, and Dustin, x-employee of Monkey Garage starts asking about all the things I have done to my ride, and after he listens patiently he says "Bitchin!" Now I don't build my stuff for the snob crowd (because they would not like it anyway), and don't get me wrong, I don't build them for you either. Again please don't take offense I really mean that. I build my stuff for me, to de-stress, and to try to learn new fabricating skills along the way. The motivation I get along the way from you guys is amazing, and I appreciate it more than you know! However I get the biggest kicks from talking to guys who build these for a living and the serious dedicated truck/car builders. It is really cool to see the expressions on their faces when you tell them you moved the entire cross member forward 1.25 inches to center the wheels in the wheel well. They know how much work it was to do that mod alone. Much less get one of these monsters to drive down the road smoothly and reliably.
So to those of you who are busting your knuckles every night in your shop/garage, you are my hero! You are the reason I head out to the shop when I really might not want to. Just so we can chill out at a car show somewhere and look at some guys work and say "Bitchin!" Nuf said!

I agree with you. I build mine to meet my standards, not theirs. I've read Dustin is a pretty level guy. I like the scsb, I thinks it goes by "queso on billets"
I made the decision to sell the dodge in my avatar and put the money twards my dream, my 64 impala. this thread was kind of helpful, not that you need a bigger head after your bitchin comment, in choosing to let it go. Just pluggin away on something that brings you joy even if it's a little bit is way better than having someone else's project unless it was mint.
And will you PLEASE send me your address so I can mail you a few cans of rattle can primer to finish up ! Shhhhez. Your killing me. Haha

Yeah that truck Dustin is building is called that name. He's a great guy. We are going to his open house next weekend. I will take some pics for everyone.

Yeah, yeah, I know the multi color drives me nuts too, but I have to finish the roof body work first before I can spray the primer over it. Plus I took a look at the bed light in the rear portion of the roof this weekend and told myself that it needs to go. So that little project is most likely next along with a skim coat of filler on the roof. I've got a lot of the hail dents some what cleaned up with the paintless dent remover tool I bought, but for it to be right it just needs some filler to finish them correctly.
So I have been staring at the ugly bed light on my truck for some time now knowing that it had to go. So last night I got busy and pulled the lamp, made the small sheet metal plugs to fill in the holes, and then filled in the work with filler and the line where the roof meets the lower cab body work. Really straight forward stuff, and it only took a couple of hours from start to finish. I will do some additional blocking and then shoot some primer when I'm happy with the final results.
Next is the main roof panel with all those hail dents... Just not looking forward to it, and Lubbock just started into a heat wave where the temps are going to be over 100 degrees and humid (humidity this high is not normal for our region). Ah well if it was easy....

I agree 100%, the bed light was UGLY. I really like the new look.
I wouldn't be looking forward to fixing hail damage. Are you going to shrink all of them?
But you make it look easy. Keep up the good work.
PS, just had a brain fart, you could have frenched in a small led for a bed light, but I don't know if that would have blended with the look you're going for.
So I finished up the bed light this evening, blocked it all out, and shot some etch primer on it. I also finished up the upper rear cab corners where the seam is too. Now it is all smooth and ready for finish primer.
Now on to the hail dents in the roof. Been pulling them out with a paintless dent glue puller. Working really well so far. Just takes lots of time. Still going to have to run a skim coat in the end to get it flat and perfect.

So I had an issue with my Accuair eLevel system this weekend. I called their tech line, which by the way is really great! I am sending in my ECU for them to look at and hopefully fix. They are a great company and I know they will take great care of the products they sell.
The issue with the truck was that it would not level properly, and when I tried to recalibrate it, the ECU simply would not take the new calibration. So back to the Accuair guys for them to take a look at it.
The reason for writing this post is when I talked with the tech he said they have had issues with their ECU's if someone has drained their battery and had to jump their car. We also spoke about bad grounds being a potential culprit as well. BTW, I have neither jumped my truck from another vehicle, or had any ground issues that I know of.
So a warning to you guys who have this system. If you have to jump your car from another battery please disconnect your ECU so it will not damage it.
When I get the ECU back from Accuair I am going to isolate it big time! I will take lots of pics on the reinstall. I like the Accuair products, don't get me wrong. I just wish their ECU's we more robust.

Some weekends we get to work on our tucks and cars. Other weekends are filled with projects like this one. The AC cover on my travel trailer was getting old and beat up. Lot's of west Texas hail storms had done it in. It had done the same damage to my friends trailer also. We both decided that we were going to make new hoods for our respective trailers.
So a while ago I was given a huge piece of stainless steel by a friend of mine. It was a giant vent hood in an industrial kitchen that was being remolded and they were just going to throw it away. We cut it down and made the hoods out of it. A lot of TIG welding, and a lot of fab work, but we got them done today. I am going to use my old square body door seals for the bottom lip that sits against the roof of the trailer. Talk about using things you never thought would go together. The only things we had to buy was the screen mesh on the side for ventilation. Gotta be resourceful now-a-days!

Yesterday I spent a good part of the morning before it got super hot installing the new stainless AC cover. I had to use some old screen for the rear of the unit, which was formally used as part of the old plastic covers method of keeping the dirt dobbers (read: mud wasps). Not the prettiest job on the rear of the cover, but hey if it keeps those wasps out I will be happy.
Just for all the truck guys out there, the bottom seal is the door seal out of my donor suburban. It looks like something a factory AC cover would come with. Plus it will last for years, and if it gets all tore up I have a couple more saved for the future... So glad to be a truck guy!

Bed Time!
So West Texas has had a string of really hot days. There was just enough breeze today to keep you from melting, so I got busy with the frame work for the sheet metal in the bed. I had to take out several of the old supports on the original frame work to work with what I have planned. I also put the front panel back in too.
So the plan is to have a couple of compartments in the front of the bed for tool storage. There will also be a luggage storage area right in the middle. The center section is going to raise up on gas lift cylinders, and I found an old bear claw latch I've had laying around forever to secure everything.
Stay tuned! This should be interesting...

Quick question. This just showed up for sale down the street from me. I'd like to build a ride that has about the same altitude as yours. Would I be able to drop this as low as yours fairly easily? I'm guessing you have drop spindles on your truck. If so, would they work on this dump truck?

you be careful with the big meats on the back. a friend of mine had the same setup and hit some standing water on the highway. it hydroplaned and put him in the ditch, he didn't get hurt but the truck did.

Xtreme, Looks like a 3500. It should be similar yes drop spindles will drop it and keep your stocks springs for now. It's the dumb bed and acc that's goes with it that I'm not sure about.

Yes If you used drop spindles it would make the job a lot easier. As far as fairly easy, the short answer is yes and no. That is because to get that truck as low as mine you would have to do a step notch on the rear end (the not easy part), and then the front end on those years are actually easier to drop than the older years like mine (the easier part). So if it was me I would buy it and slam it on the ground! Go for it! Just make sure to go back through my build and see where I have done things twice and save yourself a lot of time and especially MONEY!!!
That's to bad! Yeah you have to be careful no matter what you drive. I hope the truck can be saved... Glad no one was hurt (the most important part!)!
Yes I used the Accuair switch. You need the 3 level switch to make the system work properly.

if you are just using the vu4 for now, just use the pressure switch that comes with the compressors. before I went with the full e-level system, I just used an AVS 9switch controller going to the vu4 plug that I made, and an 8 or so gallon tank with the viair switch. the accuair switch has a weather connect to a plug that goes to the accuair ecu, rather than the 2 blade terminals like a standard switch that you can wire yourself and probably get for cheaper or may already have

Yeah, the vu4 doesnt have anything to do with the pressure switch, just needs an air source from the tank and the pressure switch just needs a relay per compressor. most of the viair dual packs come with the necessary relays, pressure switch and suggested wiring schematics, just need the wire and inline fuses.
The lines in the C10 (and K5/10 etc) body almost "beg" for two colour combo. Looks great on them. In my opinion the dually rear fenders brake up this picture, there are no "natural" lines in them matching the rest of the truck - when it comes to splitting colours.
Image search for "c10 dually" shows people have tried several ways around this. My personal preference would be single colour.
Nice Truck, and great work! - however if you look where I live I hope you understand why I believe you moved the frame and body in the wrong direction relative to ground.

We (my son and I) have a saying, "The elevator 's got to move. We don't care which direction, it just has to move." I have a static 4"-6" drop on an '03 Ford F-150 S'crew, and it's seen a ton of snow.
