I wish I had a heavy-duty sewing machine,

I picked up this 1937 restored Singer from a friend for a song a few years ago. It's not a heavy duty commercial sewing machine but, with care, I believe it will do nicely when I get around to my interior work.

My wife has a Singer single needle commercial machine and people are always asking her to sew heavy materials like leather for them. Be careful what you wish for!

Nice machine and will probably sew through two layers fine, it's only when you run into multiple layers that you'll have issues.
Ditto. [emoji106]

I always joke that I have three welding machines and two sewing machines. Done everything from furniture upholstery to sporting goods and my wife admits I am better at using them so I fix all the clothes too - tho there could be ulterior motives. :wtf: Just wish my industrial machine could do more than a plain straight stitch.
That's awesome! I have two welding machines and three sewing machines. Never know when you may hsve to narrow a seat frame or weld up a console etc for upholstery. [emoji106]
I wish I had a heavy-duty sewing machine, I think it'd be an awesome skill to have. I've done a little bit of sewing shirts and pants on an old Singer machine, but I want something heavy enough to handle thicker canvas and what not. My grandfather and I made a few snowblower cabs for our Wheelhorses out of 1/2" EMT and had a local Amish guy take measurements and sew us up some nice covers. I'll have to post a picture of one. I'd love to be able to do my own.
Everyone should learn how to sew, it's a basic skill like cooking, cleaning, hunting and fishing. I welded up a bunch of emt for simulated burglar bars at a car audio shop I worked for when I was young. I did it indoors due to weather and ended up sick as a dog afterwards, may have damaged my brain some on that job...

So since sewing is being discussed, I'll throw this out. I had my eyes peeled for probably six months for an affordable, older commercial machine and never did see anything, so I broke down and bought new. The Singer heavy duty models are dirt cheap. I got model 4452 for around $200 on sale. It'll sew through multiple layers of heavy duck fabric, as much as will fit in there, actually. So far, it's blown me away with what it'll do with the right needle.
Evidently, all the models in the series are the same, the difference is just the accessories that it comes with. 4452 is among the more fully loaded, and comes with the walking foot which is essential for multiple layers.

I had to get a new 30 gallon drum for my parts washer, the old one rusted out.

So I got a new one, and it came with this nice steel lid that will never be on the barrel again. I decided to turn it into a fake old shop sign for my garage.

Last night my Black Box showed up from Mac's and I installed it in my Jeep. I then had to re-organize my tools/equipment that I haul so everything was within easy reach and readily accessible. Turned out pretty nice.

I haven't posted here in a while as I had mentally "given up" on my garage... Long story, but in a nutshell my house has a lot of family coming and going and the garage was always the dumping ground. I tried to keep it clean but about a year ago I just said "F-This" and let it get really bad...

Well, that bit me in the *** because a few weeks ago I came across this '98 Ranger that needed a loving home. So I spent a few hours each night for the past few weeks to clean out the garage...

So here's the Purple Ranger in her new home. I am very excited to have a project vehicle again, and happy that I'm back out in the garage:

Yesterday, I got my Dakota out of storage.

As it had been in a storage garage for several years I spun a new oil filter on, added some corrosion inhibitor to the radiator, made sure the tires were round, added some fresh fuel, Berryman B12, and Marvel Mystery oil to the fuel and a fresh battery.

Then a quick wash, new tags, and drove it home.

Tossed in a bunch of "scrap" lumber left by the contractors. Once the dust settles it will be time to move it all down to the shop were I can shorten it.

Worked on my '55 Chevy truck stovebolt blower build mock up. I started mocking up the oil breather catch can on BillyBob's firewall. Measured and drilled the 5/16" holes and mounted the bracket with 3/8" stainless steel standoff spacers to clear the bump out in the upper part of the firewall. hose fittings are next.

No pics ?

Pics or it didn't happen :)

Ok, here are a couple of pictures of my Mac's Black Box installed in the back of my 2011 Wrangler Unlimited. Nothing too exciting, well it is to me.;)

Box mounted. It hinges on the front so with the rear seat folded forward the box tilts upward allowing access to the OEM under floor storage cavity.

Here it is with my tools and off-road accessories installed.

It sure cleaned up the rear of my Jeep as I had my tool bags and gear placed in the back and held in place with tie-downs. The Mac's Black Box is awesome, it has adjustable/removable tie down locations on the top so I can strap down my cooler and my lawn chairs to the top.

I decided I needed a portable cart for tailgating using my Honda generator and auxiliary gas can, and for my Lincoln 210 welder with bottle, and a new Radio Flyer Wagon for my niece. So I built a cart that I can convert to use for all of my needs.

Today I finally finished up the crib. My wife is due with our first in a couple of weeks and she was getting pretty antsy that it wasn't ready yet. The hardwood parts are cherry and the side panels are 18mm baltic birch plywood.

I also made these hexagonal wall shelves that she found on pinterest from 12mm baltic birch.

Very nice. I like the way your OCD has manifested itself in the tool organization. It is a disorder that many of us here on GJ seem to share :)

That is awesome. Congrats on your first child, they are a blessing.

I remember getting a used crib and sanding it all down and refinishing it for my son. Seeing your post and comments made me think about that time 24+ years ago.

I wish you the best with your new addition to your family.

Great work there for the new arrival!!;)
I noticed the mobil of the solar system above the crib. Keep all that stuff high up. My second son almost lost a finger when he was a year old getting his finger twisted up in a string of a mobil. That was over 30 years ago and it still gives me a pit in my stomach.

Thanks. I have been thinking about the mobile. I already took out about 10" from the original string that it hung from. As he gets bigger, I'll probably move it somewhere else or take it down altogether.

Brought in a new project.

I drove all day Wednesday to go retrieve a 1984 BMW "Airhead" motorcycle, got in late Wed. night, and today I hauled it to the DMV, got it titled in Idaho, and rolled it into the shop for cleanup and repairs.

Once again, the little forklift comes in handy. And I was considering building a motorcycle lift . . .

This bike was FILTHY, GREASY, DIRTY, and after I rode it to the local spray 'n wash, doused it with degreaser, thoroughly washed it and rinsed it, I still spent the afternoon today scrubbing off old oil, grease and dirt.

Found a few small repairs to attend to, tightened up the loose oil pan bolts, and took care of some other misc. maintenance stuff.

It has a long way to go to where I see it being "finished", but I am getting my parts list together for the next steps, and hope to have it on the road soon, and have something to do next winter, too.

Looks great! I wish I could find some unistrut material around here, there are a couple projects I wanted to use it for, but it seems impossible to purchase it locally in my area.

No Home Depot in your area? Granted, they have limited selection but they do have some strut and the nuts, a few braces, etc.

We do have Home Depot, Lowes, Sutherlands, Ace, Tractor Supply etc but none of them carry it. I have been to all of them in my area in about a 100 mile radius.
