What's up with this light?

This looked like a nice light so I hurriedly traded another auction goer for a small roll of wire.

It is a great quality light , but it does not have an on/off switch, at least not one I can find.

The brand is McGill

That is a McGill drop light. Top quality piece.

Should have a cord and plug attached.

It does have a reallyNice cord and plug attached. It looks to be in almost new condition.

I'm just trying to understand why they never put a switch on it.

switch can fail,
wasn't intended to be left plugged in, intended to be 'put away'
you can always hack the nice cord and add a switch.
or unplug it when done and put it away someplace.

Without a switch to break, it should still be working when your grandkids need to borrow Grandpa's old light.

Or, add a switched recpt near where you use a drop light when working on your car!
