Should I buy this? Not sure if I want to keep it or resell? I have an old Columbian but this would be a nice upgrade. First one I've seen in person

STAGE: i didn't see the price, but that Snap on is actually a Wilton Tradesman and looks about 1980's or in that range so a solid MADE IN USA vise.

i have one like that in a little better condition and i've been offered plenty to sell it and haven't yet for some reason. a few members have put on a different and better looking Snap On label and painted them bright green and sold them on Ebay for a fair amount.

that Snap on is actually a Wilton Tradesman . . . . I believe a foil sticker is it's only claim to fame.

Yep, that foil sticker doubles the price. At a recent swap meet, I overheard one numbnuts say to another, "See that 'un there? Them Snap-on vises wuz the best ever made."

If you can "steal it" it's worth buying and restoring however if you pay top dollar you would probably just be better off buying a new or almost new Wilton Tradesman (same exact vise minus the stick on Snap-on sticker). Of course there IS "the fun factor" in restoring it :)

BTW...... The Wilton Tradesman is STILL made in USA! I have seen new ones heavily discounted and sometimes on sale for up to 30% off!

Me and a friend was talking about the Snapon vises the other day. They are just rebranded Wilton Tradesman vises(1700 series) like others have said. They take the "mid grade" USA made tradesman Wilton vise and throw a sticker on the side of it that says "snapon" and then charge an extra few hundred dollars for it. They arent the top of the line Wilton vises but still good for a cheaper price point however i wouldnt pay extra for a Snapon name. Id just go buy a regular tradesman for cheaper that didnt have the Snapon name.

My old Snap-On driver had one mounted up in his truck and called it his 'hardhandle screwdriver blade replacement device'.

That is top dollar for that condition. I've bought two at $75 and $100 recently. Figure another $50 for new jaws if you want that "new car smell". I would make note of the jaws (and any other flaws you find) and offer $100.

I have an 8" one and it works good. Probably paid too much for it from Snap-On 20 years ago but there was no shipping charge. I replaced the jaws with smooth ones and bolted the bench to the wall/floor to be able to really crank on something.

It's priced at 199 I don't think the seller would go for 100. I don't have to have it. Just bought it was a cool piece
